Three areas of comment based on previous Gen and Gen III ownership.
First, the current paint is equally as smooth, glossy and orange peel free on major surfaces (hood, fascia, trunk) but contains significantly more orange peel on the "soft" panels (front fenders and rear fenders). Most notably on the top surface that you see from the drivers seat.
Second, the paint is significantly more stone chip sensitive. That includes the hood and side panels, but also occasional chips where it is very unlikely that a direct rock hit occurred. Not sure if it is the high bake paint or thickness of the clear that causes it but I had more rock chips after 1 year with the SRT than I had in 10 years of RT/10 ownership.
Third, the thickness of the clear and the limiting factor that provides for wet sanding and polishing out the orange peel. Not enough thickness to chance it.
I am with Daniel in that my car is already in need of a repaint, which my RT/10 is nowhere close to needing. I say bring back the old paint as it pleased my eye better and held up much better.
