when you first bought your cars, we at ASC put forth alot of time and effort into making the cars a show-room standard paint job

I am not sure if your question is directed mainly at Gen III owners, but I can tell you the paint on my 02 was excellent. There were only a few imperfections, which is to be expected.

Looks really good...but I've found dirt or some other kind of contamination on a few different parts of the car while washing it. Doesn't bother me though.

IDG23- Do you happen to know off hand if Dodge still has any of the factory mix White paint used on the 2004 White Mamba's and 2005 Commemerative Editions?

Three areas of comment based on previous Gen and Gen III ownership.

First, the current paint is equally as smooth, glossy and orange peel free on major surfaces (hood, fascia, trunk) but contains significantly more orange peel on the "soft" panels (front fenders and rear fenders). Most notably on the top surface that you see from the drivers seat.

Second, the paint is significantly more stone chip sensitive. That includes the hood and side panels, but also occasional chips where it is very unlikely that a direct rock hit occurred. Not sure if it is the high bake paint or thickness of the clear that causes it but I had more rock chips after 1 year with the SRT than I had in 10 years of RT/10 ownership.

Third, the thickness of the clear and the limiting factor that provides for wet sanding and polishing out the orange peel. Not enough thickness to chance it.

I am with Daniel in that my car is already in need of a repaint, which my RT/10 is nowhere close to needing. I say bring back the old paint as it pleased my eye better and held up much better.

yes thats all true, it was DCX choice to go with the 1k on the ZB and not the original 2K on the earlier SRT, GTS models, but we do work on new products to make the paint jobs more durable

I am actually with GR8 ASP on all of those points. My Final Edition GTS had very little paint damage in 12K miles, and my SRT had almost the same within 2K miles! The Clear Bra on an SRT isnt just a good idea, its NEEDED. I intend to have the clearbra added to my new hood and sidesills before I even drive the car on the street.

PS- I would like enough paint to do the entire car... as I know this wont be the last time I have to paint something.

Leonard- I own a 2004 with silver paint and it has many small almost water mark type imperfections. I had it buffed once with no result I haven't had the opportunity to see if it is in the clear or base. By the way, what kind of paint do you all use? Glasurit? Dupont? thanks

Hello, I have an Red 05 and the paint is OK, the fenders and quaters seem to have a fair bit of orange peel. What kind of paint is used for the factory paint - is it an acrylic-urethane BC/CC? Is there a wet-on-wet surfacer used, or are all the panels recieved ready for the base coat? Do all the colors have a black primer/surfacer?

Thanks

the paint we use is BASF laquer high bake "1K" it does not get hard until it reaches atleast 260 degrees, but it is alot softer than the AKZO that was used before on the 1st and 2nd gen Viper, but when we do spot repairs we use AKZO "2k low bake, hardends at about 140 to 150 degrees",

I like my paint job.
I've had LOTS of people tell me that my car's paint looks great.
I've not found any imperfections or problems at all, and when it's freshly washed and polished, it still glows.

Idq23, When did they change from the 2k to the 1k on the SRT's?

I'm looking for a Silver SRT/10, is there a better year for the paint quality?

I only wanted silver so I bought an '05 understanding that they (you) would not be painting silver in '06. My paint is close to perfect. Only exception is a thumb-sized blemish on the horizontal surface of one of the front facia louvers where it appears there is no clear coat - just matte looking silver base coat.
My only complaint, and it is a small one, is that the side gaps on my hood are far from equal.

I actually never felt such a smooth paint job ever. Even when i stripped my wax off with diswashing soap to appy zaino, the car fely amazingly smooth almost like it was waxed. And somehow even after 2 coats of zaino on the viper, and 2 coats of zaino on my mercedes, the viper feels 10x smoother and softer. Also i find the paint to be very durable as far as rock chips.

I have had all 3 gens and Vipers have the best paint of any car I have seen (although I did have the infamous hood cracks on my 95)If you don't appreciate your Viper paint go buy a Vette. Both my 00 C5 and 05 C6 had orange peel.

I know I've asked this question before, but is there any effective method of removing acid rain spots? As previously suggested, I've tried a clay bar, but without results.

Is the only answer a repaint of the areas involved?

Thanks....

Wash with Dawn (strip all wax).

Wash with 50%/50% water/white vinegar. Keep going around the car applying vinegar from a cotton rag for 30 minutes.

Wash with Dawn and Dry. Verify deposits are gone.

Wax.

Try meguairs dual action cleaner/polish. That should work. If not there is some more serious stuff out there that will get it out without repainting it.
