1995 with 5K miles. First time I've turned on A/C in over a year. Used it last year once and it worked. Doesn't blow cold air.

Service Manual doesn't give any help here. Is there a gauge to check freon level? What are the troubleshooting steps?

When turning the switch to the air position, under idle, didn't see tach affected at all. Shouldn't it have moved a little under the the compressor load?

My A/C was acting up last week, went to Advance Auto and bought one of them recharge bottles with a guage(I think $14.00).

Connected to large A/C line as instructed, my freon was dead, recharged to blue level and hey it works great for now.. as for the RPM idle, the A/C does not effect that..not even noticeable in my car..

Please note this recharging is a bandaide, not a cure, obviously I have a leak and or compressor going bad, also these portable units do not remove the water from a leaky system..

hope this will help a little..

Not to shoplift the thread, but there are quite a few guys on the Dodge ram board that swear by a product that makes your air colder. It is found here:

Anybody ever use this stuff to make your a/c colder?

I was reading an old post. Cal Cobra has a 96 RT/10 and he says his wasn't blowing cold air and a peek at the sight glass window shows it's pretty empty.

Where is this sight glass window?

Passenger side, the "aluminum" compressor (cylinder shape vert.), on top of which, you'll find the little "eye". If you see some kind of bubble, you're missing freon. I am not an expert so take my words very basically.

When you guys are running the AC in warm/hot weather, does your temp guage really start to climb? I find myself driving with one eye on the guage and one on the road. I'm not talking about stop and go rush hour traffic, but normal cruising around. I have seen mine almost into the red on a real hot day in stuck traffic, I shut it down and roasted.
