I just bought a 94 and the guy said it has A/C but it does not blow cold at all. I looked under the hood for the A/C compressor or lines but I did not see anything. Can someone tell me where the compressor and lines are located at or have any pictures? Where can you refill the system? Is it R12 or 134a?

Refrigerant is R134a. The AC condensor will be in front of the radiator if you have one.

Find a dealer in your area that has a good Viper tech to get the system repaired if necessary.

You'll find the AC compressor on the drivers' side of the engine. It is mounted down low, under the power steering pump (if memory serves me...).

If it has the A/C lines and canister pictured, it most likely does have A/C. If there is just a empty space, I hope you like TX weather.... :D

I actually picked up a recharge kit at Wally World pretty cheap and now my AC blows ice cubes. Easy project to do as well.

Well it looks like I dont have A/C. How hard or how much do you think it would cost to add A/C? I am sure I could get all the used A/C parts from Bobby Archer...

yes, Archer is a source. Also try Paul Scharf, he deals in used viper parts/wrecks. Paul tends to forget "VIPER TAX" and charges good prices for impossible to find parts.

P.S. it would be brutal $$$ to go for new parts from the dealer.

Above should cover the "Do I have A/C". The Gen I cars could be bought W/O it, so the A/C position on the dash was covered with a little round black sticker.... if A/C was installed, the little sticker was peeled of to reveal the "*". It is possible someone just removed the sticker :(

The compressor os so buried you can barly see it from above... best to look for the tank shown above (which is where you will recharge it if needed.) Side note, if it has a leak, there is a high probability it is the condensing unit...

It does not have A/C. I dont think I would be hard to add. Just need to get the dryer, compressor, lines and evaporator. It should work with the wiring the car has. Opinions?

Might not be that easy. I believe that Dodge is sold out on the conversion kits. Parts Rack had some of the kits in stock some time ago. Might also call Chuck Tator at Tators Dodge. If you have to buy individual parts it could be pretty costly. Might want to look for a used set up. Good luck!

I can do a complete used unit off of a '95 I just took apart. Call me and I will get you a price,

You already have the plug for the compresor and the sensor on the dryer built into your wire harness, just need to add the hard parts.

And I'd be calling the guy that sold you the 94 "with A/C" to pick up Pauls tab. You'd have a case if this was documented in writing somewhere, such as, his classified ad. If not documented, you are probably SOL and will have to pay for it yourself.

Yes, seek reimbursement from the guy that stated it had A/C. From what I've heard, if you bought a Gen I without an A/C your are NOT gonna have A/C. A dealer would probably **** you from $4k and up at the very least.

Just sent him an email.

Matt,
I wanted to let you know the car DOES NOT HAVE A/C like it is listed in the eBay auction and the autotrader ad. I have checked around and I can get all the used parts for around $2k, or have the dealer install it for over $4k. What can you do to help me out since it was falsely advertised? Everything else works fine. Let me know, I dont want this to turn into a big legal ordeal.

Patrick Moore

If he replys back to me and says the car was sold as is, then I will say yes it was sold as, and it was listed sold as is with A/C like it was listed on ebay and autotrader.

If I were him I would, at most, offer to give you the money back. If he sold the car as is, I'm not sure that you have much of a case.
You looked at the car, you didn't know there was no AC, he can say the same thing.
If he is in some other state, you are even more out of luck.

Do you plan to drive around in the summer with the top and side curtains on?

I always wondered why the early R/Ts had air.

Remember the crappy zip side curtains?

Regardless...in Fort worth...GET AC! Especially in a RT, nothing like sitting in traffic and getting into car and having that cold air on a hot day to keep you going. Just my 2 cents.

Call me a fuel wasting, capitalist pig - but there is nothing finer than driving with the top off and the AC blasting!

Also have the Vmania windows which while not perfect - are light years ahead of the Jeep-style zip windows.

Easy way to tell... does your control head have a stupid little sticker over the frost/snowflake symbol? (small black dot sticker).

I work for the company that made the control head for the gen1 and 2's.. I couldnt believe what they had us doing for the non-ac models!! Instead of paying for units without the AC symbol, they had us just put a sticker over it.

Sounds like the seller "installed" AC by just removing the sticker!

The gen1's are deceiving, because the dash indicates that it has AC. The car is already wired for it so an install shouldn't be a big issue other than the price of the AC.
I had a Gen1 for 8 years and never had AC. I didn't miss it, in fact my 2000 GTS AC hardly ever gets used. I'm a HP ****** and I don't want to give up 10 ponies when I can drive with my windows down.
