i hate ebay for making it too difficult to report fraudulent items.

It is fairly simple to report this kind of auction. Click on the "Report this item" link near the bottom of the page and report it as a typical fraudulent auction. I just went ahead and reported it. I'm sure it will be gone in a day or two. I'm not sure who I'm protecting from fraud though. Are there still people who would fall for this scam?

I don't know how eBay could prevent this from happening in the first place. The listed seller is not really the seller. His ID has somehow been hijacked. I don't know how that happens unless they used some simple password.

The intersting part is to look for the auction that was "stolen"..... often a recent auction. If you do a search on completed auctions, you can often find the "original" auction for all these "to good to be true" auctions.

The stolen identity thing is probably from the "phishing" Ebay emails that people respond to. It is interesting to look at these also... often they'll have an official looking "from" email's. Here is a short list of the recent ones I've got:

[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]

When you look at the full header.... emails are completely different!

Ebay does not make it easy to report the phishing stuff.... I get them almost daily.

I love it even more when I get them from site I am not registered for....

I've been getting emails, presumably from PayPal, telling me that there is suspicious activity on my account, and would I please go to a website and update all my credit card info, yada, yada. I never respond to them. The credit card of record is no longer in use.

Got this one today, asks you to "Get Verified" if you did not buy the item... guess what, surprize, surprize, the "get verified link" does not go to pay-pal... just to an IP adress running a PHP program, no telling how many people would click on something like that, and get their identity stolen....

I just got one that said a new email was added to my paypal account. I followed the link and suspected something. The new window that opened up didn't have the paypal address and it asked me to log in. Also in the "to:" address line there were like 20-30 other addresses similar to mine. Obviously it was a mass mailing phishing for something. I reported it to paypal.

Hopefull no one will fall for this trap.
