In 1 YR P/S Pump #4 Bad - <50 miles

Okay, Power steering pump number 4 in a year was installed today, drove home 50 miles and it leaks worse than number 3 did. Number 5 goes in Thursday. Anyone know of good lemon law right sources? I'm about done with my patience with power steering issues.

Laws vary by state but basically repeat problems that take the car out of your possession for 30 days or longer.

You have a nice car, too bad all the problems.

A month ago a guy with a blue/silver '06 coupe stopped by my house when he saw me working on my car. Long story short he had some kind of motor or transmission issues (can't remember). He told me they lemon-law'd his car and was getting an '08 for free. Saw him driving a medium red/black stripe coupe two weeks ago. Good luck either way

Has a dealer been covering them under warranty thus far? You may also ask to get a new pump in the event they have been installing re manufactured pumps.

If you escalate this by looking at getting a buy-back, the Zone rep will most likely say it is the fact that your car is modified and that is affecting the power steering pump(s), even if failures had occurred prior to the supercharger installation.

I am not aware of any particular problems with SRT-10 power steering pumps, at least I haven't noticed it on this board. (Hopefully others will chime in)

Yes its been covered under warranty. The tech and I chated when I picked up the car yesterday and he did state he checked to ensure the pump he put in was new and not remanufactured. The first two pumps went before the supercharger mod, but as you said that will probably be an uphill battle fighting that the supercharger install isn't the root cause. We'll see what happens with #5.

Just the pressure hose.

Could you have a problem with pulley aleignment??

If it fails again, I personally would replace EVERYTHING in the system that is included in the power steering "fluid pathway"...including rack, all hoses, cooling module, coolers, etc.

Agreed. If I was your tech, I would have gone into the system after pump 3.
At my work I had a car that snapped it's drive belt a couple of times as well as almost all rockers, after asking a reputable engine shop it turns out that the first time the belt snapped it caused the bearings in the diesel pump to fail, making it jam randomly. When checking by hand the play felt acceptable, but when putting a crowbar against the cogwheel and pushing gently it became very evident. Not the same case as yours but I bet the principle is the same.
First suspect would be the pressure hose, how long ago was that changed?

May be a dumb question, but have they bothered to flush the system out? If there is crap floating around in the system, it could be causing internal seal failures.

Found the problem I think. For those of you running Paxton's, make sure the pins and dampener are properly installed. My dampener was not fully seated by about an 1/8 of an inch or greater resulting in misaligned belts, and unwanted tension by the P/S pump. Misaligned belts equals pulley and seal and bearing failure in my book. We'll see what happens with the new dampener etc. My money is on a problem that never should have occurred or needed to have been solved. Do it right the first time, but stuff happens.......oh well, hopefully moving on now from this issue.

No, discovered it myself, Replacing the dampener and installing new pins now. Should have the car running tomorrow. The dealer is mod friendly though to answer your question. I'm going to go and pick a pump up from them today and will install that myself while the car is apart.
