I have an opportunity to buy a red '94 with 78K miles for 25K. Car is clean as I checked carfax. One owner, just drove it alot (the way it should be!) - never in an accident. Body is excellent, a few minor scratches here and there, nothing major. Has new tires, cold A/C, rag top, side windows, and borla exhaust. Some stuff was replaced about 2-3 yrs ago when it was still under warranty. New clutch, fuel pump, fly wheel. It never had the head gaskets replaced...but at this mileage, if they were a problem I would assume they would have already went.

Is this a good deal, fair deal, or no deal??

I plan on driving my Viper frequently, but prices on these Gen 1s are all over the map.

What do you think??

Sounds like a good deal. I would recommend that you pay for an inspection by a Viper-certified mechanic just for peace of mind. Also, be sure to budget for the head gaskets ($1,800 - $2,200) just in case. Other than that, I would say that you have found a good deal. Best of luck and be sure to post pictures if you buy the vehicle.

While I can't buy one, I have looked tons. If car is fair, buy it. Even though it has high miles, you wil rarely find a 94 at or below 30k. And i have seen some with 50 or more thousand go for over 30.

Have it inspected. It will be well worth it, you never know.

Sounds like a good deal. You will have a hard time finding one with that many miles that is in "perfect" condition.

Good Luck.

Sounds like a great price. If it in good condition the miles don't matter as much to me.

Miles don't matter much to me either. I wanna drive it! I was just curious to know if creeping up on 80K would drive the price down a lot.

If I had an extra 25k I'd take the $500 I earned this week at the kwickie-mart and add it to the 25k I got and I'd outbid you for the viper.

Too bad I don't have 25k laying around.

Haha...i know the price is low. But honestly I've been seeing lots of Gen 1s in the 29-32K range. Most have 15-30K miles. 78K is more than most.

...and I also worried about the head gasket issue. Not sure if I should anticipate another 2K like garolittle pointed out.

Definitely anticipate it, but if the car shows no signs yet, just save for it when you can. $25K is a great price and if your a DIY, it will cost only about $1200.

Sounds like a good deal for 25K. It is alot of miles. I paid 33K for mine in March of this year, it had 32,000 on it. If the car is in good shape and has been well taken care of go for it. As some have said on here let a Viper tech take a look at it. I think the head gasket thing is something to be concerned about, I haven't had any problems with mine yet, but that's not saying it won't happen. I've heard that it not a matter of will it happen, it's just when will it happen. Go ahead and get it, besides it's a sidepipe car and it's Viper Red. Good luck, and post pic's if you decide to do it.

WOW! 25K for a one owner Viper in great shape!!! Buy it now - I don't care how many miles are on the motor. Although, I would have a compression/leak down test done on the cylinders.

I have to disagree with everyone. That price *****! It is nowhere near fair and should be much higher. So yeah....buy it.

And just so you know that it isn't that unusual, you can buy my 94 RT for $28k firm. It's a nice car.
Anyone interested say so and I'll tell you all about it.

Thanks everyone! Come to think of it, regardless of mileage, I've never seen one this low...so I'm going for it!

Picking it up Friday & I'll post pics as soon as I can...

(now I'm all set for Tator's in the spring!)

Car is clean as I checked carfax.

Don't believe everything carfax tells you, trust me, I've done the research.

Have the car checked out by a reputiable tech. Also get it on a high lift and check the undercarrage thouroughly - frame damage is tough to hide. If you and the tech are both happy then $25k is a fair-plus average price for a 78k car.

Good luck.

I agree with you guys 100%. I bought the car out of state and have seen close-up pics. I know Carfax is not guaranteed at all. I've heard horror stories that are gonna make sleeping tough for the next 2 days.

At 25K, I still have decided its a deal. I haven't even seen a salvaged Gen 1 this low. Everything shows clear, mileage checks out, new tires, and great shape for the price...

I figure at 25K, if I ever had to dump it, I figure I could do so without taking much of a hit. I'm taking it to Tator's when I get it for a full inspection.

Thanks for the feedback from everyone!

Damn, can't wait til it gets here...
