New Viper owner here (97 GTS). I've heard that the 96-97 CAMs are a bit more agressive than others in the Gen II!? Is this true or just rumor!? If true, how much of a difference re we talking?

Thanks in advance!

there is a link in here (VCA) somewhere with all the specs. but the short answer is yes, by a little. the '708 cam' that was OEM in the 98/99 is a rabbit's-hair more aggressive than the 96/97 which is still considered aggressive. I'm sure someone will pipe up and correct me on the fine details...

Yes, my 01 purrs and my 97 rumbles...much different. Say "potato" about 10 times in a row with no pause and thats just about what a 708 cam engine sounds like. :)

I thought the lift and duration were the same with only the overlap being different.

The earlier cam sounds more aggressive. I don't think it's really worth any power stock...possibly some with forced induction (possibly not)

What was the reason for that minor change in profile? Was it just fine tuning? :dunno:

A lot of people did not like how the Viper idled(too rough, caused NGR). So by changing the overlap, it made for a tamer idle and help to identify the 2000+ cars as "creampuffs". Part of that creamy label also came from the Hypereut. pistons they installed in 2000. 1999 cars had the big cams and was the last year for the forged pistons. :2tu:

So the the people with 99 ACR's are the coolest:headbang:, 1st year for the ACR , last year for the Bigger cammed forged internals:2tu:
