issues with stereo

Hi Guys
My stock deck is starting to act up.. when I am playing a cd, and press the the track buttoms to skip to a new song etc lately its not playing the new track,

Tried a couple of different cds etc same outcome... so i just eject it and reinsert the cd and it works again, tried pressing the play buttom but it just says "pause"

Any thoughts

Sounds like you have a defective unit. Just replace it or put in an aftermarket system. It's not worth putting any time into it.

Any suggestion on name brand aftermarket units, I heard from previous posts that the stock wiring harness does not attach to any head unit... is that true???

Most aftermarket head units will need an install kit. It has a harness that connects to the stock connector and another one that connects to the new unit. When I installed mine it took about 15 mins to solder the wiring on each harness together then another 3 seconds to make the connections in the car. It was literally a snap.

BTW, if you replace your head unit you'll need to replace the amp at the same time or spend more time and money to convert the connection back to a DIN connector that the stock amp uses.

For the 97' the alpine unit uses a Din to connect to the amp.
There is no plug-in adapter, it will require a little wiring. Also the antenna has a signal booster that is switched. I have added this to my amp turn on, to avoid a constant drain. I ran RCA to rear amp and left factory wiring intact, by pressing the pins out of factory harness(did not want to cut up factory harness)
