Installed 2 6.5 inch kicker ks600s door speakers in my 08 coupe today. Used the kicker covers and they really look nice with the 2 tone colored interior. HUGE Improvement like others have stated. Cannot believe the cheap chinese paper speakers they put in the doors.

I still have the stock woofer between the seats, which I was sure was blown, but a funny thing happened. I had my doors open working on the car and a friend opened up the hatch as we were going to just cut the wires on the sub as it sounded so bad--thats when I realized with the hatch open and the doors open--the stock system sounded great---the terrible distortion did not happen until I closed the hatch and the doors--
opened and closed the doors and the hatches noticing the difference, and not sure why it is, but the stock sub is almost like space starved or something with the car closed up.
Now the questions---what is the best way to get at the stock sub--does the grate pop off?---has anyone found a direct drop in speaker that sounds good without any modifications?

maybe it sounded good because the engine was off and you didn't have the volume turned up as high as you do when you are driving it?

nahh---that would not explain why when it is opened up that the speaker sounds like it is fine, and when played the same way closed up--the woofer sounds blown.

When I have the top down the woofer still sounds gutless.

You need to move the seats forward and take the big plastic trim piece off, that will expose the woofer box and give you acess to the woofer itself.

Let us know what you end up doing, I'd like better sound too and I'd rather not get into adding amplifiers and that kind of stuff.

think I would be happier adding another 2 way there or just disconnecting it altogether and adding a low profile box in the trunk with a single 12---

I was thinking of doing the same thing (Kicker's). I thought mine was blown too, but it has been that way since new. I am going to see if it changes with everything open. Let us know if you get it resolved & how.

Here are some threads that will help you out. Basically there are 4 direct fit replacement speakers that will drop right on. The JL Audio you have to remove the rubber magnet cover and it fits. Basically it wont be that much better as the problem is the box that the speaker fits in. At high volume you can still hear the speaker vibrate as the box does not have much breathing room. Even with the top off and everything open the speaker still rattles. The 4 speakers are the Kicker 08CVT654, JL Audio 6w3v3-4, Lanzar VW64, and MB Quart PVI 164 as quoted from Vman455 in the thread I started. The best bang for the buck according to the spec sheets is the kicker. Got it for $49.

I have the kicker for the center sub installed. I have an aftermarket amp that is pushing it. I thought I could get rid of the rattling of the sub by replacing it but its still there. My trunk is getting done this weekend and will show you what it looks like with the amp in the trunk with the bottles. Let me know if you need more instructions on how to replace the speaker. Just did it a week ago.

what would happen if you just put in a 3rd kicker ks600s in the center spot---should fit right in?---then add and amp with a 10 or a 12 in the trunk?

Keep in mind that the gas tank is right behind the seats in the conv and will kill the sound to the cab.I was just messing around and put my buddies 15" woofer in my trunk and hooked it up with his amp.
With the trunk closed and woofer facing back and then forward I got no bass coming inside the cab.No matter how i placed the speaker (with box) i got nothing. The trunk would rattle insane though.

I agree on all counts. That was also my experience.

Spent a lot of time on this myself. It's a band pass box, very limited air space. I had the JL in there, magnet cover off, barely fit. It did improve the sound slightly, but rattled. In the end, I built the same box, slightly bigger, still bandpass, dynamatted the box and stuck some stuffing in there, sounds good now.

FYI, if you go this route you will need a KS650 (6.5") or other 6.5" speaker. If it's 4-hole mount, you should have a variety to choose from.
