Any beginner advice for launching on Pilots?

Also, am I the only one not being capable of going wide open throttle in first gear without losing traction? I mean once I get a grip, even then if I give it full usually my wheels start letting loose.

Also - off topic a bit. What do you all think a novice might run at the track on a stock genII? All I have is s/b filters and smooth tubes, and running on the pilots. If I ran 10 times, what would you think I'd get as a best time?

my advice.....get a set of drag radials. The best performance mod you can do. Up to half a second gain.

ok, as far as Pilots go. MY OPINION is to let them down to 22-24 psi HOT and slip the clutch off the line from around 2400 to 2600 rpm's. Also ait up the front tires and skip the water box. This should get you into the low to mid 12's first time out.

Buy Tom Welch's Video on drag racing your viper at www.btrviper.com Great advice to start. I think the poster above is suggesting 35 psi in the front tires so you have less drag. Tom also reccomends a full gas tank and take the air filters out at the track. You can disconnect the front sway bar for better weight transfer. The drag radials are a great idea-next step N2O. Try stepping up your launch RPM 500 each time until you spin, then back down 500 next launch. On the drag strip once you launch you shouldn't spin the tires further down in 1st because they will have sprayed the surface with VHT. It is like glue. Good luck and have fun!

my 98 gts has basically the same mods. I spun good on the launch, chirped into 2nd and 3rd like a dumb@ss and went 13.023 @ 116.56mph.

that was my first run EVER.

I know if I can launch it better and shift better it will be a better time obviously

Where exactly is this video? I don't see it anywhere on the site. A direct link, perhaps?
