Greetings "Captain Viper"
It sounds like It may be in the Tach. Your next step is to check the voltage at the back of the gauge[blue conector/5 wires]. To do this your going to have to remove the Tach to get to the conector. If your comfortable with taking your dash apart go for it. Caution-Watch out for the "A" posts they scratch easily!! With a voltmeter probe the blue/white wire thats your 12 volts-key on-and the black/white wire thats your ground. Also check the terminals. If there OK the proglem is in the Tach. You could have it repaired or you can replace it.[Part # 4642131 MSRP $210 new]
Good Luck

My 93 started doing the same thing about 2 weeks ago. I found that tapping on the tach frees up the needle, leading me to think that there is something sticking in there somewhere. Please post any thing you find out.

I used to have that problem in a Porsche 911 I had prior to the Viper. I tracked it down to humidity. When it rains heavily or was really hot and humid the tach would stick like you guys are describing. When it was dried out (put the heater on and drive for a long time or leave in a warm dry place for a few days) it would be fine. I live in a humid environment and that may not be your problem at all, just thought I'd throw in my two cents.

PS. Just noticed Captain that you live in a cool humid place too, so it's possible it is the same problem.
