lug nut caps

I have a newb question. Im spring cleaning my car and want to take the wheels off to get all the grit off the wheels and calipers. I just noticed that the lug nuts have caps in em (yeah..go ahead & laugh) I just noticed that. Is there a proper way to take them off with out causing any cosmetic damage? Thanks

The caps are not supposed to come off. Really you need a new wheel nut if this happens. If you have the cap, you can put it back on with a small amount of quality silicone.

Honestly, just get a nice set of 1pc aftermarket lug nuts. You'll be dealing with this for eternity

I bought lug nuts from the Bay. Same lugs as on the Dodge Dakota IIRC. (BLACK BULGE ACORN LUG NUTS 1/2-20 1/2")

Cheap and functional. I knock those off enough that they get a bit beat up so I buy extras if they get too chipped up.

What sort of aftermarket lug nuts are you using? They look the same as stock?
