My 03 Viper has 16,000 miles. The fan only spins at dead slow, except when I pull the plug off the coolant temp sensor. When I do that, it spins up like a plane taking off. The ECU isn't throwing any codes other than the temp sensor when I pull it off. I've read a bunch of posts, but I'm still confused on what the problem is. ECU? Help please.

Thanks for responding. To my knowledge, there isn't a fan relay. At least there isn't a relay for the fan in the fuse box. It's a hydraulic powered fan that is powered by the power steering pump and speed controlled by the PCM.

Update. I changed the atf fluid in the power steering/fan system and the fan started working again. I'm guessing my power steering pump is slowly going out. Just wanted to give closure to this thread. lol

Maybe you'll get lucky and it's just a case of old fluid .... on my mustang my pump started to make a horrific whining you could hear a block away and it was very difficult to steer. I figured either my pump or rack was dying. I changed out the fluid and it all went away and 100,000 miles later my rack and pump are still doing fine

Check fan wiring at the fan solenoid. They often break inside the insulation and look like they are intact, when they arent. Pull the wires one at a time... one will usually pull out of connector or stretch/flex way too much.

Flush the system again, and filter what you remove after running it for a few. Look for metallic material. If you don't have any, its unlikely your system is failing. Be careful however of introducing contamination.

I'll check the wiring today and I'll flush it again in the next week. We've got Cruisin the Coast coming up next month. Thanks.

Mine Started yesterday, and has the code. I'm going to try to rebuilding the unit. Nothing to loose.
I have and open coil on the solenoid, so ne leaks at the valve.

Try to use one of these.

After some more test it is the "Orange" wire on the short pigtail harness is broken . Way easy to fix!!!
