do i have to run synthetic motor oil in my 93 or is conventional oil ok? the reason i ask is since i bought the car i have run synthetic oil in it. right after buying the car though, i ran it for about 1,ooo miles before changing the oil. during that time the car didn't smoke that i noticed. since i changed oil and ran synthetic it has been burning oil and smoking. is this coincidence or could it be more prone to because of the nature of synthetic? also, if i need a rebuild, and it is out of warranty, where would you recommend, say, east of the mississippi? Where would be the best source for rings, pistons, etc. thanks a lot!

First I would collect data, monitor (at each stop for fuel) oil consumption, record oil pressure data at idle, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 rpm for both cold and normal operating temp.

You could also change to non-synthetic and repeat the data collection above.

I feel if the consumption is 1qt/1000 miles or less there is no problem with burning oil.
