Mufflers

Here is a cost affective change that doesn't sound like crap. 1. Cut the rear muffler replace with straight pipe. 2. Cut the door resonators and, replace with Dynomax 2.5 bullet mufflers, will take care of most of the rasp. Gains on a 00 from 4HP to 6Hp, and the best of all killer sound. Tony

I experimented with chopping up the stock system, and never liked the sound I was able to achieve. Gave up, and bought a used 2.5 Corsa ($750). Sounds incredible, all stainless, and nice tips. Here's the dilema: You will spend a few hundred, at least, experimenting. Chop - Weld - Clamp will be your middle name. For a few hundred more you can get a used system (if cost is an issue), and know it will look/sound good. Although, you want to hear the different systems on other peoples Viper to know what you want before purchasing. I personally think new systems are to **** expensive.

Perhaps this will help. I did NOT want a big increase in noise but I DID want the car to sound a bit more like the beast it is (stock is just too small). I did the tubes/filter (as did you) and spoke to Sean Roe for a good hour (terrific and knowledgeable fellow if you need info) and he advised me to start with changing the cats to his Hi-flow version (there are many versions out there) and then see how it sounded. Did the work and I like the sound - perfect for me. There is a definite increase in depth and volume though it's not painful as some of the cat borla/corsa back systems are (my personal opinion and everyone has their own preferences with this). Each side costs about $125 (oval) and HE has found and claims (although there must be 100 posts with varying opinions and findings) that you should gain 14 - 17 HP converting from stock to HF cats. SOTP - it sure feels like I gained some punch (but without a dyno the deeper sounding exhaust alone can influence how it feels). The changeover also gets rid of some weight (the original HEAVY double cats might be better used for torpedos) Anyway, you can start with the cats and then go from there.

I should be picking up my 95 tomorrow and one of the first things I need is some more sound. I think i'm going to go with some hi flo cats and no mufflers. I'm just looking for the loudest thing on the road. anyone heard the different cats and can comment on which had the meanest sound? I don't care about drone yada yada yada...

Cut the muffler for $100 and drive it for a few thousand miles.

No hidden meaning. Just give yourself time to listen to it and also to decide on what you may want to go with. I cut my muffler two years ago and haven't done anything else to it. But then, I have # 34 for when I want really loud.
