My local dyno shop will try to squeeze me in for a baseline dyno run later this week. Just so I have ballpark figure, what have other 2008s hit using a Mustang (not a Dynojet) dynanometer? I remember that Mark Jorgensen did some runs on a Mustang but I can't seem to find the post.

Also, is there anything I need to check before m run? I have received the following checklist but was wondering if folks had any additional pointers or comments. (FYI, my car is currently around 1,500 miles):

Check ambient temp and humidity;

Car is stock with the exception of Sidewinder wheels and Stoptech rotors;

Must have a minimum of a full 7 sec pull

Must be in 4th gear or 1:1 gear ratio for Viper dyno pull;

Will set air pressures in car to stock 29 psi cold for dyno run;

Will ask what the dyno correction factor percentage is for the this particular Mustang dyno.

Am I missing something?

Thanks for your help.

It does not need to be in 4th gear on a mustang dyno. Any brand of load bearing dyno can use any gear and get the same results. Only inertia dynos need you to run in a 1 to 1 ratio. Use SAE or get both corrected and uncorrected numbers. Ask when the last time that they calibrated there load cell was. The less time the better. Also ask if they have the dyno inertia calibrated. Make sure they use the correct weight and HP@50 when they test your car.

4th gear is always the best and you won't get any potential wheel spin this way. Also the graph you get will be more accurate and detailed.

We use a Mustang for all out dyno work and when we did the 08' we got 481 RWHP and 455 RWTq which converts to the same numbers the engineers get at Chrysler's Mustang dyno 602 crank hp and 569 crank Tq.

4th gear is used on a viper because it is the 1:1 ratio in the gearbox, and will have lower losses than say 3rd or 5th.

Rich,
Which shop are you planning to use for the dyno? Wong's Performance is a good place to dyno and we have quite a few Viper dynos from there to compare your numbers to. He has a Dynamics dyno, but it gave numbers very comparable to the Dynojet numbers I have seen.

And one last tip I learned by experience - take your parking brake off before the run. :rolleyes:

Ken --

Thanks for the reply. Yes,at Ken K's recommendation I will be using Wong's. So is a Dynamics dyno a type of Mustang dyno (load bearing) or is it another type of dyno altogether? Thanks.

Actually I lied. Tom Wong has a Mustang Dyno, but it seems to be tuned to give results similar to a Dynojet. The Dynamics dyno I was thinking of is at another shop.

On Tom's machine a Ford GT put down 533RWHP on a slightly short pull which is pretty consistent with what people were seeing for those cars stock. I was in the 570's which is just about what I was expecting as well.

Tom is a big Corvette tuner but has started to pick up the tuning on Vipers as well. He's also a real nice guy. I'm thinking about taking mine down there and having him work on the tuning on my VEC2 this spring sometime to see if he can get more power out of it than I have gotten by tuning it on the street.

Thanks Ken. In my limited dealings with Tom so far, he has been very professional and very quick in getting back to me.
