Don't forget a 180F thermostat and overdrive water pump while you have everything apart.

P.S. Man I wish my engine was that clean.

Sorry I got the stat but tell me more about the water pump?

Carl
Both Tommy Archer racing and West Coast Vipers offer an overdriven water pump with upgraded impeller. I just installed the WCV unit but do not have any miles on it. $600 with core from WCV. $1k+ from TA but I think that is with entire pulley set.

Sound descision, do you need the 97 cam though on a blown motor, your later milder cam might be better suited to the supercharger. Just a thought......no definite info to back it up. In 2001 there was a problem with waterpump impellors. Cant remember which year yours is ?

Might be worth thinking about a new pump just as a precaution.....the impellors on a batch were prone to loosen if I remember correctly. Dan Cragin would have the full story on this, may be able to help you.

Be sure to tape off your inlets and outlets when you are not using them. And clean them off before inserting them.

Carl,

Are you going to have the cylinder walls honed? Also, how hard is it to remove and replace the pistons? The reason I ask is that I might have to replace my rings and was wondering if it can be done without removing the engine. Thanks!

wrist pins require pressing off the rods

i will just glaze bust the bores prior to fitting the pistons

i need to file the ring gaps too as i got the file to fit rings

Yes I have the ARP kit but I was a little concerned how small their washers are compared to the factory bolts

Carl,
Great post! I plan on doing virtually the same thing this summer except I have a centrifugal type SC. Please post any "lessons learned" or tips on the whole project.

I was planning on removing the engine for easier access when doing the pistons/heads, etc. Is it fairly easy to do it with the engine in the car?

So far as I can see it all comes out pretty good with the block still in place

Will tell you next week about how the cam removal works out

It looks like there is nothing to stop the oil sloshing up the inside of the crankcase when cornering
