New keys electronic?

I have to admit how dumb I am, and say that somehow, I managed to lose both sets of keys, and both fobs. I went to Swift Dodge in Sac to get a new key, and new fobs. They charged me $100 for the key, and said that they are electronically coded. Is this true, or was I taken for a ride? Is this what a dealer normally charges for a new key, or do they figure the guy with enough money to buy a Viper can afford a $100 key? I didn't have much time, so I went along with it, but I don't feel like I was treated very well.

If your key does look like that I just bought one from a guy on ebay for $21 which included shipping. It came in the exact package as the factory key. It cost me $2 to have it cut at a locksmith.

I called Dodge first and they said $90 for the exact key...same brand and everything.

Actually I didn't even win the auction. I lost but the guy sent me an email with the offer. He has more in all colors. If you want the email address I'll send it.

I too got an extra key off ebay, right around $25 with shipping, whatever color you want...got it cut for $1...

Is it possible to return to your dealer, and at least set them straight that our keys are not "electronically coded", so they do not mislead other viper owners...You may opt to apply a swift kick to the ****, this has two positive effects, one: they will never forget that these keys are NOT electronically coded, and two: they will have to remove their thumb from their a$$ to provide comfort to their ****...
