New Transmission - YIKES!

Transmissions are being replaced as often as razor blades. No problem there, but I would be sure your tech has learned how to weld before you cut him loose on the recall. Alot of techs are being given a welder and told to go after it.

I'd be sure he is good or gets some practice first as most dealers have just been told they can start repairing the cars.

My dealer just called and told me that due to a bad syncro in 6th gear they are replacing my entire transmission (i know, i know, who even USES sixth gear? the answer is when driving the Florida turnpike from Miami To Gainesville for UF games it cruises nicely in sixth at around 100 mph) Fortunately, it's under warranty. They are also checking to see if I need the recall #999 (frame reinforcement) done. Anyone know how likely this is to be necessary? Should I do it anyway? Any thoughts?
