Hey all. I'm happy to say that there's a new snake in the family A 99 black/black rt-10.

This car has been a garage queen most of it's life, with only 5300 miles the only thing the previous owner had EVER done to it is change the oil about once a year.

I'm taking the car to the shop next week to have the AC looked at, what else should I have them do?

What fluids should be changed due to age?

Any seals or belts that could deteriate from sitting from age alone? What should I ask them to check?

What is the typical cost of the AC parts that they may have to replace? Compressor? any other commonly failed part?

Could the AC just be needing a recharge? seems to me that with only 5300 miles, that wouldn't be the case. Or can the freon be affected by time as well?

thanks!

Fluids:
Power steering
Transmission
Brake
Differential

Also have them inspect and grease suspension fittings. R134a will leak over time, but it is still possible you have a leak btween some fittings. Just have them run a leak test (dyes show up where the AC is losing its charge) to make sure.

Replace the serpentine belt and replace all 4 tires assuming they are the originals. you should have plenty of tread left, but they are hard as bricks. Call Jon B. at Partsrack.com for your tires.

My guess is that the refrigerant has leaked out due to the system not being used much over the past several years. The gaskets will dry out when not used and create small leaks. you will likely have to add refrigerant and possibly replace gaskets.
