Hi Everyone,

I am changing the oil on my 2004 SRT10 and I was wondering if I should use 10w30 oil or 0w40 oil? I was searching this board and I cannot find a clear answer. Could you please help me out with my oil question?

I drive the car between work and I usually take the car on the highway. I am a spirited driver as well. The car is driven in Canada during the summer and stored in the winter.

Thanks in advance,
D

Check the manual and use the factory fill for street driving. I think it's 10w30 Mobil1 for the 2004.

On the track, use 15w50 Mobil1 or equivalent.

In 2005 Mobil 1 0W-40 became the factory fill for Vipers. This excellent oil has better levels of phosphorus (1000 ppm) than the Mobil 1 10W-30(800ppm). As I deplete my own stock of the 10W-30, I am switching all of our Vipers to the 0W-40 product, noting that they are street driven vehicles.

Many have taken the expert advice of the well respected Oil Guru Mr. Tom Hayden and have moved to 5W-40 diesel...be it "dyno" or full synthetic.

Hello,

I use Castrol TWS 10W60. Recommended for all M3, M5 or M6 BMW engines. And also used by Porsche GT2. I do not trust in too liquid oils like 0W40. And 60 gives you a wider range when the oil is really hot...

But this all depends on the climate conditions. In Alaska I always would use 0W40, but in Dubai always 5W50, 15W50 or 10W60.

I believe that it was mentioned that 0W40 was the preferred oil now for the Vipers. I think it was even mentioned during one of the SRT engineering threads. Of course, I may be wrong. It seems to happen more and more the older I get.:rolaugh:
