Next gen GTS goal - match Ford GT\'s 0-60 in 3.3 and 1/4 of 11.6@128 mph

The current (Jan '04) issue of Car & Driver road tests the new GT 40 (ok, Ford GT), and the 0-60 time of 3.3 seconds and 1/4 mile of 11.6 sec @ 128 mph clearly beats my stock blue & white striper GTS, as well as the two cars they tested it against (a 911 GT3 and a Ferrari Stradale 360). Good thing for the GT it could reach 60 in 1st gear, so not shifting helped the final time. Big numbers, big bucks - $150 K, not counting dealer markups. I sort of like the big Ford performance numbers, since hopefuly DC will be able to match them with the next gen GTS for about 1/2 the street price of a new GT 40. Apparently the C&D folks were not allowed to test the upper speed range in the GT, so I guess it's possible the GT 40 tester could have been a bit of a ringer. Mark

And wait until the Coupe comes out with a big-bump in HP/Torque. Not to mention body styling that matches or exceeds that of the GT40, IMO (Comp. Coupe). It will dominate the GT40 in every performance category, and be nearly half the price. Naturally aspirated to boot!

Now please build the thing already, would ya!

Hard to understand why motor trend and car and driver are reporting such different results. I read the Motor Trend and other than the 0-60 the SRT spanked the GT..

Motor Trend got the same performance numbers with the Ford GT as they did with the SRT-10 Viper, in fact the Viper just edged it out in the 1/4 mile, and had shorter braking distances too.

And Road & Track got lower numbers on the Ford GT (no surprise) of 0-60 in 3.8, 1/4 mile in 12.2@ 120MPH.

Which all points to the C&D test car being a ringer, with a smaller blower pulley pushing the power to around 600HP, which is about right for a 3400lb car and a 128MPH trap speed. :headbang:

But having an 11.6@ 128MPH 1/4 mile time is my goal too. :2tu:

Forget about the 1/4 mile time...

DID YOU SEE THE 0-150? Freak'in 16.9 seconds. I believe the same mag (Car & Driver) tested a SRT10 0-150, and it took 22.1 seconds. This is over a 5 second difference 0-150 - HUGE difference. First of all, I can't believe it took an SRT10 that long.

Think about it, lets say your hitting 125 MPH in approx. 12 seconds. Is it possible that the next 25 MPH takes 9 seconds? Am I the only one that thinks that is a little high?

Secondly, 16.9 seems extremely low for a car with 500 HP at nearly 3500 pounds. If they truly got these numbers, as others have said, that car was 600+HP, IMO.

I agree, it does not seem possible to get that kind of performance with only 500hp at the claimed wt. The car has to have a bit more.

my 03 cobra BONE stock was 374 SAE rwhp... that is not even close to the rated 390. All fords seem to be underrated. Immaging the GT with a pulley swap!!!

i just read the motor trend comparo and the gt-44 has a faster slalom speed than the srt-10. hmmm ......................... wonder which car would win on a road course? my money is on the gt-44. after all i feel that that a srt-10 and a gt-44 are better suited to this type of racing. if u wanna drag race get a auto tranny and solid rear end like the pros have.
