Ok, I had to make you look. Trying to avoid a Nitrous Explosion on my Gen 1.

Gen 1 owner with 40k on strong stock motor, tubes/filters interested in installing a NX 150-300hp shot kit on car. Want to hear from other Gen 1 owners about installation.

How long to install?
Special tools to install?
Plug types/gap?

Optional items necessary above the base kit?
Undocumented tips/tricks
HP generated with jet used?
Additional safety features installed?

How many 1/4 mile runs on 10lb bottle?
Is a bottle warmer necessary?
Is a remote bottle opener required?
What to watch out for with A/F ratios?

Is this a do it yourself install and go without a dyno?

Any help would be appreciated.

With so many questions why not find a good mechanic that works on race cars to help you?
Nitrous has always scared me. I don't know if I'd be up for the challenge. Hope it works out for you

I have a Gen 1 (1993)with NX Express system. You could call Lee Dove, he was very helpful with my kit!

How long to install?

I took it slowly and wanted to do a A-1 job, so the Viper was on jackstands 2 weeks. Yes, it can be done in one day too... I wanted to find S/S nuts bolts, fittings, most of the time went into figuring out best way (aestitically and functionally)to do the "plumbing".

Special tools to install?
No. Good wrenches is a must, unless you want to damage anodized fitting.

Plug types/gap?
NGK ZFR6F-11 Stock #4291, Gap between 0.30-0.33
My understanding is that with 100HP shot you could use regular Champion plugs.

Optional items necessary above the base kit?
I chose billet aluminum bottleholder and dual tanks. I chose not to use the cheesy looking NX switches and bought better ones. Two NOS purge nozzles mounted in front.

Undocumented tips/tricks
No.

HP generated with jet used?
562HP/712TQ with pig-rich mixture. 52-33Jets (200-shot).
I cut my own jets for "in-between" sizes to further tuning, tomorrow is dynoday, so I'll let you know if I melted the pistons or gained power.

Additional safety features installed?
I chose not to use the fuel pressure sensors.

How many 1/4 mile runs on 10lb bottle?
None yet.

Is a bottle warmer necessary?
Absolutely, if you want to keep a constant optimum pressure in tank.

Is a remote bottle opener required?
Too much hazzle and possible issues with them functioning properly. I open valves when car goes out and close when it is parked.

What to watch out for with A/F ratios?
Lean mixture... It will melt catsize holes on top of the pistons.

Is this a do it yourself install and go without a dyno?
No. It is a do it yourself if you have some common sence and decent tools. A dyno is a must to verify your A/F ratio. Better safe than sorry.

Hope this helps!

Here are some numbers from a 1993 Gen 1 for you:

I dynoed the car today and it made: 597HP/ 768TQ

Not bad, eventhough I wish it would have made the lousy 3HP more....

Congrats! Wow sounds great. I can't wait to get a system. My car is mildly modded and now my fellow Gen 1 brothers are stepping up to Super Chargers, I need a little extra umph.

I'm planning on NX 300 shot system with 150-200 jets, bottle warmer, purge valve, and fuel safety valve.

Will order in the next few days and find an installer.

Glad to see that you are making good horsepower!
