I have just moved up to a 98 GTS from a C4 vette. The GTS has just turned 10k miles.I am thinking about adding a nitrous system somewhere in the future.I have had experience with n20 in my vette(built 383 all forged w/150 NX kit).
My question is, what is a safe shot for the Viper and which system have other owners used with success and safety? Thanks

You can throw quite a bit at a forged internals car like the 98. You can do a 200 shot with no probs. I have a direct port setup, so I do a little more.

Overall safety go's with fogger style mounted infront of throttle bods.
BECAUSE of the %risk of system failure from electrical to the nitrous/gas solinoids.I've had several failure situations that wouldn't survived if direct ported.
Direct port will definatly make more power and deliver a consistant mix of nos/fuel to each cylinder.Over 200 rw,and used often, this shoulld be your choice.
check out www.racetested.com
The only cash back GUARANTEED system in the world.
Newest technology and damm good looking.Fastest setup/removal.
Nitrous is not for everyone, since you've got to check and tinker with it often. It's nice to enjoy the car on the stock power as engineered and then get a suprise kick in the A$$ from time to time.
Good Luck

Welcome, and I love the "moved up" line!!

I went with a 300 kit from N/X with their maximiser engine computer and it worked fine. It is a fogger that sprays into chrome smooth tubes. The fuel comes from the fuel pressure testing site on the manifold.
I went to a 400 shot and it required a new fuel system. I also needed some driveline upgrading.
West Coast Viper did it.

Oh yeah, BTW, I also did a dedicated fuel sytem, with a cell full of race gas. I also have the new Maximizer from NX. It's really trick!

Your "BIG" motor can easily handle 300-400 hp on stock internals, as long as everything is working properly. You have to consider the BMEP for each cylinder and not the overall hp increase as motors vary greatly in size. People think 150-200 is a decent shot, but on what motor?

Direct Port is mainly needed on cars that have a poor manifold design for single injectors in the intake trac. Otherwise your money can be used elswhere.

Progressive controlling is the way to go as you will save your clutch, motor, and trans a lot of stress. Plus you can make more power as motors can handle more nitrous in the higher rpm range. Example: with a progressive you can have a 300 shot start off at 50% to make 150 hp and build up to 300 hp on a time lapsed system.

If you look at our tech section we tried to cover the basics in detail to answer most questions. My phone is always on if you want more details not covered.

Talk to Tom Welch at BTR. He has done more N20 car than anyone. The hottest setup is 200/100 dual stage, look at Tom's accomplishments. A 200 is very commonplace.

There is a previous comment relating to a progressive controller. I don't believe anyone has posted any great times with one in a viper. The problem is it is only usable in fourth gear and you are not traction limited there. The time in the other gears is too short to utilize the capability. Remember you are shifting at 4600 rpm's (peak torque is at 3600), except for fourth.

I don't know which one you're speaking of, but mine is usable in every gear, and I can customize it for each gear. If I want to spray 150 out of the hole in first gear, I can. If I want it to stay there it will, or if I want it to work it's way to a 300 shot in .7 seconds, it will do that. This controller is bad ass! It will do whatever I tell it to do, all from a Palm Pilot!

Hi William.I was considering adding the nx controller to my set-up.Mine is an nx with propane. Can you customize the shot in every gear and rpm setting? How do you find it to work the best with your set up?Thanks A.J.

Yep! It resets after every shift. Right now, mine comes on at 50%, and goes to 100% in less than a second. Second gear is about the same, and the rest all come on at 100%. You can choose the ramp time too. Really cool gizmo!
