My check engine light has been coming on. I hooked up the OBD II scanner and got an error code P0135. O2 sensor error :dunno: Anyone know the exact problem and how to correct this. I have headers and a cat back exhaust with no cats.... Help please

From the code, The P0135 is the heater for the first O2 sensor on the side that has the #1 cylinder (Bank 1 sensor 1). Headers can mess with the heat up time for the sensor. I don't know if this can be dialed out in the PCM with Vipers or not. In the meantime, I'd just clear the code and see if it comes back. I'd also look under the car and see if the O2's wires are intact (i.e.- didn't snag on something or melt). If it only comes back every few months, just clear it or you could always pop in a new O2 sensor (but I don't think that's the problem).

What mods do you have? You mentioned headers, which headers did you install? Did they require extending the front O2 sensors further away from the stock O2 location near the block? I've this particular issue happen to me and resolved it with quick-fire sensors from DC Performance. Tell us a little more about your mods which headers and catback, anything else done to the engine? - Tony

Do you have heat shields on your headers? potential fire hazard if you don't. Also you need O2 simms for the rear sensors since you don't have cats....unless they have been programmed out of the PCM via a reflash. Otherwise the PCM needs to see a signal from the rear O2's that ensure that the cats are working.

Hey guys not my car but it is in my garage... The car has a borla exhaust, B&B headers, roe o2 sims in the back, no cats, vec 1, smooth tubes, and K&N's. I think thats about it. We have reset the pcm a couple of times by disconnecting the battery and the check engine light seems to come on if the car sits for about a week.

I am the one with the B&W GTS that went to Mount Dora.

Sounds like you've fried a primary 02. Replace and fix the reason why it got fried....and you won't have any more issues. Primary 02s not functioning properly can affect drive ability btw.

1 of 1 O2 heater code, it could be as simple as a bad O2 sensor?
A couple of questions first:
Where are to O2's located on the headers?
Are they down in the collectors, if they are, how did they do the extensions for the O2's [plug & play, cut & spliced/solder?]?
Also if they are in the collectors, they may be running cold and that will set a heater code? O2's RUN on heat!

If you'd like to give me a call, we can talk about O2's.

Thanks for all the responses so far... as Skeetatcha mentioned, this car is in his garage with his GTS. I will take a look at the placement and method used to install the sensors and list the results. All of these mods were placed on the vehicle before I purchased it. It's a 2000 RT/10. When I clear the code by disconnecting the PCM and Battery cables, it comes back after a few weeks.
