overhyped \'05 FORD GT autoweek [email protected]

An '05 production GT; wt3485lbs,3:36 rear end was tested august 29th issue and we get more realistic times to compare to. Looks like ford supplied ringer GT's to some mags. This was the best of prox 20 runs. They do like the car.

Thats the slowest time I ever heard reported by any magazine. What did other cars run that day?

Sorry calling BS on that one. They may have had a sick car, or track conditions were crap, or weather was crap.

All these mags arent getting ringers, as these cars have been out for over a year, and plenty of people bought them, and some actually drive them. We would know by now if it was a hoax.

Sorry, this customer aint buying.

You could start the same thread and say "overhyped '05 Dodge SRT-10 Road and Track 12.5 @ 116" , because that's exactly what they got. "Track" conditions, driver, launch methods, etc all vary greatly from day-to-day and rag-to-rag. Believe me, the GT is nowhere near a 12.0 @ 121 car, just like the SRT-10 is nowhere near a 12.5 @ 116 car. The average for a GT would be closer to 11.6 @ 125. People always assume the worst test of the car they don't own is the most accurate. It tends to be the reverse when people get their hands on them in the real world.

For a same day, stock car test result, this is more realistic of the straight line gap between a GT, SRT-10 and C6, independant of what the actual crappy times are. JHenne*** was involved in this test and verified the heat and conditions.

GT/Viper

0-100= 8.6/9.6
0-150= 19.5/24.1
100-150= 10.9/14.6
0-60 = 3.6/4.4
So you have +1, +4.6, +3.7, +.8

For comparison, in the same test, the gaps between the SRT-10 and the C6 were:

SRT/C6

0-100= 9.6/10.7
0-150= 24.1/28.9
100-150= 14.6/18.2
0-60= 4.4/4.8
Gaps of +1.1, +4.8, +3.6, +.4

ya but those conditions were s*** too. 0-60 isnt 4.4 sec for the viper its 3.9 (maybe 3.8 for the coupe). and the C6 is 4.4-4.5. the motortrend times are ussally the most accurate. but this month they say the Z06 goes 0-60 in 3.5 and that seems a little too fast. its more like 3.7.

Precisely my point. You can't put much stock in the actual times any car gets on any given day. The only way to differentiate between cars of remotely similar power levels, especially the higher those levels get, is head to head performance data, such as the above... so while the numbers may be crap, they are still representative of what would happen in a showdown.
