Had new transmission and flywheel installed in car. Should there be about an inch to two inches of play in the clutch before you feel the pedal or will this work itself out?

I just had a new clutch and aluminum flywheel installed, and while the clutch does feel quite a bit softer than my original clutch, but no real amount of excess play in the pedal.

It sounds like there is air in the clutch system? You might try bleeding the system[ bleeder is down on the slave cylinder][left side of bell housing] See if that works?
