Received a lot a great advice and welcome from my last (first) post. One piece really stuck out as a great idea .......... driving/racing school (thanks Fred) for a first time owner.

I just bought my first Viper, which is being delivered on Monday and is far beyond any vehicle I have owned thus far (the top of that list being a mildly souped up Hemi Ram). Can anyone recommend a good school convenient to the Dallas, TX area? If at all possible it'd be greatly appreciated if you could give me an idea of what to expect (time involved, price, procedure, experience, etc.).

Thanks again to you wonderful people!!! :headbang:

Over the years I have attended Skip Barber, Bondurant, Bragg Smith Vette school, Derek Daly, Viper days and Jim Hall Kart school. I ended up sticking with Skip Barber and racing in their series that their graduates are eligible to participate in. I found the racing to be an invaluable application of the principals learned at the school. If you don't want to race Skip Barber has lapping days on the track in their race cars which will also help tremendously with what you have learned in school. Which ever school you choose I would recommend the four day class. Prices vary but expect to pay around 3K or less. It is expensive , however the skills you learn may save your life someday? The experience is fantastic and all the schools make you feel at home. It really is a memorable experience. I have also heard good things about the Jim Russell program and they also have a racing series.

After you go through the school Viper days is THE place to safely enjoy your Viper on a track. Can't find a safer and better place to track your Viper. Even if you want to just take it easy and putter around a track and more fully appreciate the Viper on a track Viper Days is the Gold standard. They always make you feel welcome.

I commend you for having the foresight and wisdom to realize how important it is to own a Viper and get some training to really learn how to safely appreciate the car.

Hey, you might want to come to our Viper Club meeting and meet some of the guys and gals. Alot of the guys in the club are regular track junkies and could definitely give you some contacts. We also have a member who is an instructor and he could definitely give you some contacts. Nice to meet you and hope to see you at the Viper Club meeting. I am going to post the link to the club to give you a little more information.

Marcus, I would "DITTO" what Chuck said. Viper Days is by far the best & safest place to learn how to handle your new snake. As one of Skips' (Skip Thomas owns and runs Viper Days) poster children I have grown up with my snake at Viper Days. I have taken every class he offers and used every instructor he has to the greatest extent possible.

I started out as the first person to show up at Viper Days with an SRT10, built it up with every performance, handling, and safety goodie (safety being the utmost important) you can imagine. That was three years ago, today I drive a Comp Coupe at Viper Days and may soon be moving up to the Viper Racing League. If you want to talk about your options please send me a PM with you phone number and I will answer any questions you might have. Viper Days will be in your area in June, come out and have some REALLY SAFE fun. You will not be disappointed and the cost is one of the best deals youwill ever find.

PANOZ 3 day school is awesome. They used to have a school at TMS in FT. Worth. If not- Road Atlanta- $2900.00 "priceless". And no Dodge neons or trucks to screw with. This is a great school if you want to learn and abuse someone elses car, otherwise Viper Days with your car is exceptional!!

First, go to Skip Barber (or another school) and learn car control and how to drive ... then learn how to drive your Viper. You'll learn 'the limits' of your driving much better in someone else's (school) car initially than you will trying to drive fast (without school/track time) and worrying about damaging your own car ...
