I'm in the middle of doing my rear brakes. On my rear caliper, I took off the two bolts that hold the caliper to the spindle. How do I get the caliper off of the rotor? I thought that once I took these bolts off, the caliper should slide right off, but instead it moves up and down but won't slide off the rotor. What step needs to be done next?

Thanks,
Bill

You do not need to remove the calipers to replace the pads (assuming that's what you are doing). The rotor slides out and gives plenty of room. The pistons need to be retracted (they screw in) either with a special tool or carefully with needle nose pliars before placing new pads.

Thanks Steve, But I figured it out. I removed the two bolts that separate the caliper, then slid the outer part out. Turned out to be pretty easy after all.

What made it more confusing was the told Jon B. sent me. Until I got the caliper apart I couldn't make heads or tails of it.

Its finally done now. I switched to EBC Greens. Will let you guys know how they run after I've put some miles on them.

Glad to hear all is well...think that you'll like the EBC Greenstuffs.
...If you like the 'burning plastic' smell :) They're nice + easy on rotors though!
