Depends on a LOT of things, but mainly how good a driver you are.
3:55 on a stocker is a good mod, but maybe NOT the best choice on 550HP+ due to harder to hook up. Wheelspin. (Choose 3.33?) The acceleration once hooked up is LOTS faster, but on the 1/4 mile, YOU might see only a tenth.
Guys with +75 HP say they have to shift 3:55 at 1310 feet. They prefer 3:45 gears, but give up some street performance. Do you LIVE at the track? Dont pick your gear ratio just FOR the track! The all-around street performance or 3:55 under 525HP is fantastic......best Bang4Buck available.
Rob Logsdon, new OR VCA prez, is an accomplished drag racer, with a 6 sec blown vette. He can drive his 2001 GTS CONSISTENTLY at 11.8 with stock motor, tubes/filters, stock Pilots, Corsa, and he has only 3:55 and AL flywheel (and now a rollbar!) The FW helps cancel wheelspin issues. I saw Rob (9/03) do 11.8s on 3 consecutive runs, and his 0-60ft was 1.67 on all 3 runs. EXACT to the hundredth. 1.67 exact. Stock tires. Amazing.
