Need some ideas. Had a "clunk" noise in the the right rear every time I started out in first especially when turning right. So I changed the rear end oil using the correct Mopar synthetic oil and the additive and now the "clunk" is worse!!!! It happens when I start out in first turning right or left and also when driving slowly, 15-20 mph and turning right or left.

I must admit when I first got the car I missed a shift going pretty fast going from 3rd to 4th but accidently hit 2nd instead. Car made a big "pop" but nothing seemed wrong and I've put 3000 miles on it since. Did I mess up a u-joint or what. Any ideas? TIA

:omg:

It seems like some clunk is common in the Viper driveline. I have had some with my 94 and various Viper Techs have told me it is normal. Check the u-joints, halfshafts and transmission mount for any sign of play or loseness. I replaced a half shaft and it 50% went away.

It's pretty normal. I thought there was a half-shaft issue with my 94' so I jacked it up on all fours and turned the wheels while inspecting. It seems to be gear lash inside the diff and tranny. A VCA member test drove it and said it was normal.

In my best Beavis voice "uh, uh, you said rearend noise"

Now back to helping you:

Jack the car up and retorque EVERY bolt you can find in the rearend of the car. My car used to every now and then make a clunk on takeoffs. During an oil change, I mentioned it to the tech and he retorqued all bolts he could find back there and he said one was definitly loose. Thats been over a year and no weird noises coming from my rearend sense. Well, there was one night I had Taco Bell, but thats a different story :D :buttkick:

I feel better now guys. Thanks for the input. I am putting it up on a lift next weekend to check the torque thing. I am glad that no one gave me grief for shifting from 3rd to 2nd. And Chad, that was almost tmi about your "rearend" noise. I have been told by many that Southern flatulence is by far the worst in the world.:rolaugh:
