Apparently, the scammers are looking over the VCA classified ads...
Here's an email I received last night. Be alert!!!
-----------------------------

We've just finalized payment issues with our client this evening for the vehicle and he has informed us that he is expecting a refund payment of a vehicle that he had earlier ordered and paid for about a month ago but the order was later cancelled, because when the agent went to pick up the vehicle, he inspected the order and discovered that the vehicle was not in any good condition,so the order was cancelled and then he filed in for a refund of his money. My customer now intends to use his refund to pay for this your vehicle that he now wants to buy. Due to company policy and book keeping, this refund payment which he is expecting, can only be made out in this one whole amount, that is the full amount which he paid before, because the company policy only allows a refund payment in one cashier check, so he has to instruct for the check payment to be drawn to you.So he has informed me that payment will get t! o you in a cashier check. He is expecting a refund payment of $63,000.00USD,so when the payment gets to you,you are required to deduct the cost of your vehicle which is $54,000.00USD and return the remaining balance of $9,000.00USD back to our client for him to be able to offset shipping charges, tax and other commission charges. After all payment has reached you and balance sent back to our client, the agent will come for pick up, while you send other the receipt and other title papers to our client via courier. You are required to forward your payment information (1)Name,(2)Address and(3)Phone number for payment to be made to you immediately.Take care and remain blessed.Make sure that the address is correct to avoid the fund entering in any wrong hand.We will give you a call but that should be when the shippers must have started coming for the pickup for you to direct them on how they are going to reach you. Please one more thing you are required to remove the ads of the vehicle in the web.Awaiting to hear from you so that we will fina! lize everything about this transaction.
Regards,
Management,
Jane.

Sadly, lots of people run scams on all types of classifeds now days. Here are a few tips:

1) NEVER pay via cashiers check or Western Union. Scamers use these as their primary payment methods as they are like cash, and impossible to recover.
You can use many Escrow services, their fees are a lot lower than the cost of loosing the whole amount!

2) Have the items inspected by a local VCA member if there is any question. Scammers seem to never show up for some reason....

3) Never accept a check for "More than the amount". The scam is the check is a high quality fake cashiers check, your car/parts/whatever is gone before you find out it was a fake. To add insult to injury, you get stuck with a bounced check fee!

4) Never sell or buy anything from a fellow in Florida claiming to be an airline pilot... he primarily scams on Viper wheels and hard tops... both buying and selling.

5) Never give out any personal banking information.... scammers use this to launder money...

6) Be careful if the persons only phone is a cell phone... past scammers have used "stolen" cell phone numbers.

Any more we need to add?

At least you know where these suckers are coming from. They pray on the elderly that have no idea what happened to them.

here's my scam email:

Dear Adam,
Thanks for your Reply, the price($1750)and is okay and agreed by me, to purchase it, I love to buy it So please don't give it out for sale to any other person, make sure you keep it for me, it will be Pick up this week by my shipping transport company that will take care of the shipment for me, they have been taking care of whatever I purchased. So I’m so concern that there is no problem concerning the pick up.

As regard of the payment, Which will be simply make to you from a well known business associate of my wife in the states , he has agreed to send you a cashiers check drawn on a US bank account directly for the money he his owning my store.

Meanwhile he will be sending the cashier's check along with the shipping fees, which will be add on the market price, so I want you to be expecting the check in the sum of($4500 ) to be cashed at a local Check cashing store or your reliable bank just to save up time, then you deduct your price and as I am conscious of my balance, I will like you to it the Transporter contact through western union that will be coming to see you and pick up So can I trust you that you go would the balance from the cashier check send to my Transporter agency ? I am willing to trust you, in this deal since you must sell it for me.

I got the same one as chicken warrior. But its like my replies to many threads, whether its about a dealership, warranty issues or even what you get in the mail today--you better treat every thing as a scam until proven otherwise.

They're all pretty similar now. All offering some type of refund on money they will pretend to deposit into your account. I get one almost everyday from some make-believe "king" in some country with $560,000,000 dollars blah, blah, blah, and wants to give me half. LOL!!!!!!!

Damn scammers.

Too Funny, I will add, the Florida "Pilot" usually goes by "Mo" or "Mohammed", and almost always claims to work for American Airlines. He buys and sells..... here is one of his typical emails, this one he was using an overseas cell phone number (likely stolen) The person did not buy these wheels as the seller would not send them COD or send pictures:

hello i have a set of 2003 viper wheels i just got off mine i can sell them to you for $1700 including the shipping i am a pilot living in the usa i love vipers and i always buy the parts just to keep i also race them i have a set of 1998 rt/10 wheels also i bought them from england from a wrecked one if interested i can sell you those also for $1200 if you will buy both sets i can give you a deal all for $2600 i am overseas at this time you can call me at 011-20122500616 any time i can have them shipped to you right away .i usually buy parts from europe i get them cheap.
thank you
