Sears Point (Infineon)

I'll be going there for the first time and I'd like to have my car at least roughly set up for the track.

Question: Is it a smooth track or a rough track?

I don't know what configuration we'll be running.

Oooo Sears point is a very dangerous track, it is defenately my choice of the first time track trial. Sears point is a very rough track it is also somewhat narrow and have quite a few walls to put the car into. My first experience was unfortunately too on Sears track and it almost cost me my new (at the time) Vette. But 3 of other guys on the same day were not as lucky as I am (I spinned out and stopped inches from the wall) and crashed their cars.
If you really want to try your car for the first time then go to Thunderhill track it is very nice and somewhat forgiving track to try your car.

Wow. I'm on track in some way or another more than 50 times a year so I'm familiar with what's involved. I just wanted to get an idea if the track was bumpy or smooth. My local track is very bumpy and has walls and a berm that launched a 930 Turbo end over end more than 100' just last weekend.

Let's presume that every track is bumpy once you leave the track surface.

Thanks for the info - it looks like a little extra ride height is in order. I was presuming a bumpy track since the track is quite old but I wasn't sure since the climate is so mild there. I've raced at Laguna Seca and it's not too bad even though it's an old track too.

Anyway - thanks for the info. I plan on setting up the suspension this week.

Infineon is not that bumpy of a track. IRL, Nascar, and many other serious racers use the track. I race my vintage sports racer there every year and the track is always in excellent condition.

I did Viper Days there and enjoyed the track. What day are you going to be there? I may stop by. Is there a race? or just track experience?

It's part of a BMW school weekend. BMW does a good job on their track days, maybe a little too regimented - but still OK. I've taught many BMW schools in Canada so I know that I'll get enough track time to kill a set of tires if I want and I should get some assistance getting onto the line quickly.

I've never been to Sears Point - the closest I've raced is Laguna Seca - but I'm looking forward to figuring out a new track.

The car is 'on the truck' and is on the way down. I set everything up on Saturday and had a wheel alignment on Monday. I'm just hoping that we get good weather!

BTW, What is the price for a splitter?

Been racing there almost 25 years now and I don't consider it a rough track, in fact they did a re-pave a few years ago. Have a great time, it will keep you focused

Thanks. I've raced all over Canada and at Laguna and Sebring in the US.

Track days are different than racing so there's no big desire to win, but I do want to get up to speed fairly quickly and to be at least reasonabley quick. I do, after all, have the ACR's reputation to maintain.

I've looked at the list of attendee's and it looks like I'll have everyone covered - but you never know.

I have the track record for a street car at my local track (see this months Luxury Modified Exotics magazine) in a Heffner Gallardo and I've been running under those times in my ACR without suspension tuning so my pace should be OK.

I'm glad it's a smooth track. After running locally for the past few years I could use some smooth!

Thanks for the input. It seems that 'smooth' or 'rough' are very difficult to define.

Crap! I love racing in the rain because I'm prepared with different sets of tires and suspension set-ups.

Track days are different. I don't have a second set of tires for the wet so it just might **** with the PSC's. I'm hoping for a track that drains well with no puddles or streams running across it.

Oh well. It is what it is.

I'll hope they are wrong on the rain, but they are saying as much as 3" by the time it's done on Sunday. Track drains fairly well, but you will find standing water if it does rain that much. I live fairly close and we are in the wettest part of the bay area.
