It's not you. There are tons of posts relating to this very subject. Many owners replace the shifter; I did. Others simply shorten the throw; a definite improvement.

More than just an annoyance. i.e. a 3-2 upshift (that's right) can yield disastrous consequences. I missed many such shifts, finally installed a new unit and things are greatly improved. Not perfect, but much better - yes, much better indeed!

K&P Engineering has a fix for this problem. Kip will rework the stock shifter to have a stronger spring on the left side gates (1 & 2), so that the shifter more quickly returns to the center gate. The spring on the right side gate remains stock so that the shifter is not difficult to get into 5th and 6th. He will also send you a solid shifter bolt that eliminates the rubber isolator. I have one in my car and it works very well. You will need to send him your stock shifter first. Call Kip on 303-697-5821.

That's exactly what I meant by a 3-2 upshift. Been there, done that, pretty scary. Has actually resulted in crashes; not me thank goodness.

May want to consider reverse grip (thumb down) for 3-4 gear shift.
