Shims taken out of an ACR ?

Hey guys I need some feedback if anyone has removed the shims from an ACR. I just had mine taken out and the control arms adjusted up front and the car has major snap over-steer. The car handled ok before this how ever it always had some under-steer and has burnt up the outer edge of the tires if I tracked it. I thought this would give me the negative camber I needed however now it has gone the extreme and has snap over steer.Now my thought is the rear is to stiff for the amount of bite in the front.

1) can I correct this with ne alignment specs in the front/rear?

2)maybe the ACR is to stiff in the rear to remove the front shims and I should put them back in?

Anyone have any ideas or experience?

Although my car is not an ACR I have the same spring rates and adjustability.

Did you reset toe when you pulled the shims? It changes alot when you take out the shims.

If not, what was your alignment settings before the removal?

Thanks for the response supposedly did not change toe however they do not have an alignment machine so I cant confirm. I think my next step is to take it and get the alignment checked.

If they didn't change toe, that would explain both issues especially if you had some decent camber in there. I think shim removal will give you about .8*-1* more. Plus you're probably toe'd out about 1/2 or so.

The turn in must have been really really responsive

When you remove the sports shims you will also need to check you bump steer

I thought only ride height had an affect on bump steer. What's the thoughts on camber changes affecting BS.

Carl, when you remove the sport shims it moves the steering racks inner tie rod rod pivot point move outboard (in relation to the upper and lower 'A' arm pivot centers), thereby creating toe out and changes to the bump steer geometry. I found I have to check and adjust for bump steer every time I horse about with front end geometry. You also have to be aware that moving the steering rack (shimming) also screws around with the Akermann. I ended up making my own suspension bits (uprights and tie rods) to get the front end to track evenly.

With bump steer being a real PITA to check and adjust that's too bad. I recently reinstalled my shims, recorner balanced and then aligned. Car had the BS set without the shims. I wanted to widen the front stance more. I haven't notice any additional bumpsteer. Perhaps I should have it measured again.

Damn guys this is starting to sound like a hornets nest . My car handheld ok before with just a little to much under-steer I thought the additional degrees of negative camber would help . I am thinking now just to reinstall the shims and try and get it back to where I started .
