A 348 outhandling a 360??

WOOOOOH!!!

Somebody doesn't want to do their homework!!!

My Brother owned both a 348--Gorgeous car, a 355 Challenge Car--Mind Blowing and they wont reach 60 to 70 K for QUITE a FEW years!! He explained that as Track Events Director of the New York Chapter that the 360 is in a class by itself and truly raises the bar of competition. If your friend is interested in the 348, he should find the local Ferrari chapter in his region and they can provide him with all kinds of help in making an educated decision. Ferrari people are enthusiasts just as we are and will be sure to assist you friend in a ride along if he asks!

Best of Luck,

Jay K.

I had a Ferrari years ago and the seller stated "don't drive it farther than you can afford to have it towed back from. John Yup--- I turned it over for a profit, quickly.

Gary beat me to it. That is a 512 TR which is much better looking than the early Testarossa's. I think they are sitting at around 80K right now. I would save up the extra cash and get the 512 instead of an early car for sure.

You need to be a little fella to fit in those older cars. It took me 5 minutes to shoe-horn myself into a Testarossa!

If you ask me, there is more wrong with being a big fella if it means you can't drive an F-car. ;)

No, he owned one (348) for about two years and the 360 for about 8 months. I think it was more the whole 80's thing of cars we idolized while growing up. :D I also think most people would push a 50K 348 a little harder than a 170K 360. I drive my F-car with "spirit" but I would never push it to the limits like the Viper. Stuff just costs too much to fix...

without reading this thread word for word...getting into a TR can be VERY expensive. Be prepared to pay 10's of thousands of dollars just to keep it running and keep your fingers crossed that nothing major breaks.

Oh yes...if you decide to do any type of major service on the car such as a timing belt...the engine has to come out...from the bottom.

If services are done by someone other than a trained Ferrari/Exotic tech or a dealer...if will effect resale.

Other than that...enjoy! HA HA

At this point on the depreciation curve, it will not matter. A good independent mechanic if often better that a dealership in working on these older Fcars.

Even as dated as they are, they still look incredible in person. Pictures do not do the car justice. I would love to own one, as one can be bought at a reasonable price. Not to mention they will not lose much value, if any. But dam*, the maintenance just scares the be-jesus out of me..... And my logical side always seems to win out....

I will have to do more research on this. I am not afraid to tackle jobs on a Ferrari. The maint seems to be the big issue, but heck if I was able to do my own Viper...I am sure I will eventually be able to do something with the Ferrari if I spend the time researching like I did with the Viper. Knowledge is power...I may be wrong, but the Ferrari has bolts and screws just like a Viper...maybe I will rip out the engine and stick a Viper engine in it lol! I'm sure it could be done with the right plate adapters, but that is over my head and would take some of the fun of having the car....But I am seriously considering this car in a couple of years to add to the Viper. I agree..pics don't do justice to it.

AB,
You are right(for once :D ). I have a little porsche 944 turbo I wanted to make a little faster. I decided to do some research, and like you said, it was nuts and bolts the same as the American cars I've worked on. Now that I got the hang of it, I can do quite a bit of work to the Porsche. I'm sure the F-car will be the same.

True, but the more important questions are how much those nuts and bolts cost, and how often do they need turned?

Re: Since I am not too fond of the new SRT-10 coupe...I think I am going to

I would say it is not so much the cost of the nuts and bolts but where they are located. The Viper may be one of the easiest modern cars to work on. The clamshell makes everything easy to get to. Now compare that to a mid-engine 80's car where you have to drop the engine to service it. It is not that it can't be done it is just a PITA.

Ab, did you ever replace the turbo's on your Z? If so you have an idea of how annoying some cars can be to work on.
