Lately, I've been bad about taking off in 3rd instead of 1st. I've prob done it 10x in the past couple months. I never had this problem before. Tranny and motor mounts were all replaced 6 months ago or so (OEM mounts replaced with OEM mounts). Also, when under WOT today, it seemed harder to get it in 3rd than usual. I don't go to high RPM's much, so maybe its just b/c I'm not used to shifting to 3rd at 6k+? But, coupled with my new habit of taking off in 3rd, seems like it may be related. Yes? No? If yes, why?

"01ACR/Viper" blamed ******* girls sitting on my Raptor shiftlight for it not working and now my very own puppy gets blamed for the gear problems. So, looks like its Viper vs. ******* girls and Kumho.....uhhhh, anyone wanna buy a low mileage, garage queen McV? :D

Explaining Viper things to you
OK... No more dog-n-wing jokes.

Didn't you just get your tranny fluid changed recently?

You have an older car. Did you use the more modern Syntorq fluid? Does that not swell like the synchro backer rings or something technical like that?

Or in other words, with the puppy in your lap and the waitress on the shift light, the Syntorq in your '96 Gen 1.5.1 will not not allow proper meshing of the gears?

Oops. I said puppy again.

I know you just changed them but you are describing some of the classic symptoms of broken motor mounts. Did you change your trans. mount also?

Yes, they were all changed at the same time. But with my luck, I guess I could've already broken one :dunno: Thank you for being the only helpful person on this thread. Well, Dave helped, but not until after blaming my poor defenseless puppy, Kumho :D. To answer your question Dave, I used ATF+4 auto tranny fluid (full synthetic) part # 05013457AA per Spring 08' Viper Magazine.

For you other delinquents...

Kumho is not big enough yet to cause problems while in my lap during my streetraces against SUV's and VW Bugs. Check back in 6 months

If you b!tchslap me at *******, I will simply fake unconsciousness and that will make the girls lineup to give me CPR. Slap away, my friend :D

My car was bought as a collectible...not a car to drive or get wet. Honda Accords are what you buy to drive. You buy Vipers to sit and collect dust and make you rich one day. I don't even use water when I wash it. To claim it has been in rain is nothing but a hurtful lie

There could be a myriad of problems inside your tranny. I took a quick look through my chassis manual and I'd suggest removing your shifter and look at the ball on the end that does the shifting of the rails. Could be a shifting fork or synchro. Anyway, I don't suppose that helps you much?

I'd try loosening the skipshift solenoid a few turns and see if that makes any difference (something you can do without removing the tranny) and pull the shifter for a look and see if there's any visible wear. After that ... ?

Stop being a lazy basxard. Learn to use the proper gear in a timely fashion or sell the Viper to a real driver and get an automatic corvette. GTS Bruce
