I wanted to pass on our experience with Team Tech's 6 point harnesses. As you all may be aware we are big supporter's of Team Tech's harnesses. We have been running the 5 points for some time in both of our cars that we run in Viper Days.
Since we are always looking for improvements we discussed one problem that we have with the stock anti-submarine belt mounting location. Unless you are using a race seat it is too far forward. It allows some forward motion of your body under hard braking. One alternative is to cut a slot for the belt in the stock seat. The other is to buy a race seat.
Curt suggested an alternative that I believe is much better. We sent him our anti-submarine straps and he had them converted over to a 6 point set up. Basically the single anti-sub strap is replaced with a V strap with 2 ends. These ends go to the same eye bolts as the waist belts.
We ran with the 6 point set up in both cars at the Viper Days event at VIR. We were very impressed with the difference this change made. No more sliding in the seat at all!!! The change was remarkable.
There is a downside. The 6 point anti-sub buckle assembly is a little harder to stuff out of the way. Instead of being able to just stuff the buckle assembly under the seat you need to unclip one side of the 2 belts that make up the V in order to stuff them out of the way. In my mind this is a very minor downside.
Another benefit is that installation is actually easier. No need to make a hole in the carpet for the center anti-sub strap and install the eyebolt.
Team Tech can convert your 5 point anti-sub strap to a 6 point one for a nominal charge. They also have 6 point harnesses available as an alternative to the 5 points.
NET - we highly recommend the 6 point Team Tech harnesses!!!!
