To Connelly, or not to Connelly, that is the question...

I used the search key to find some threads but nothing much came up. Picking up a 99rt/10 in about a month or so. The people on this board convinced me to plunge and sell my corvette. Now my new dilema is as follows...

The dealer has a black 99 with connelly interior. I can't see the car because it is a trade in for a 2003 SRT only going through in May. The 6 feet of snow in Quebec makes for 2-3 months before I can see it  . I have never seen a good picture of them, and secondly, is the touch softer? The dealer said it is a higher quality leather. I like black myself, but he says it is gorgeous...granted; but does this interior look cool? I have heard people use words like apricot  , and light chocolate  . I don't want the word apricot being associated with the viper...ever! Can someone post picks and tell me what this leather feels like. What is the opinion of the board?

Thank you
Michael

I don't have any pics, and I too like black, but the tan (I call it) Connelly is awesome. Soft and rich looking. Go for it

Dear Michael:

First of all let me say the Cognac interior is phenomenal. This color is a must have for any dark color that you get on your viper. I just bought my new 2001 RT/10 and it is Sapphire Blue with the Cognac Color Interior. This color looks ten times better than the plain old black. Also the Cognac color interior does not show wear as much as the black version. I have enclosed a few pictures to hopefully help you make your decision.

Hope I helped

KEITH

Dear Michael:

The pictures should show up this time. I used the code that I use for my website by accident. Let me know if this helps. :)

The color is very strange. To most people it looks like a pumpkin. I loved it when I bought my 99 RT-10 new, but the first time I took the top off in the bright sunshine, I decided I hated it. The quality is much better than the black leather, VERY soft and it has an almost 'wet' feel to it. This is why is was used in all Rolls Royces, Jaguars, Aston Martins etc. I guess opinions can change with time. This was a silver car, so maybe it has a different effect on a black Viper....

Keith, now this is what I needed. This looks great! It looks sooo soft, and does not look "tacky" or apricot. It does indeed look rich. The other part is that the color would not heat up like black leather in the sun. My vette has black leather seats and it can become even uncomfortable with the summer temperatures. I don't think this would occur with connelly. Great shots!

manasas1, perhaps the color silver does not jive with the connelly? But I will take it under consideration before purchasing. I will have the top off in the sun.

I like this connelly more and more!

Gerald you are forever influencing me :D . The problem is finding them. Can you post pics of the inside? Or anyone with black/black for that matter?

thanks

Go for it! Connelly is awesome! I really like the contrast to the black or sapphire exterior. I think it looks great- but that's just my opinion. If you want black, then wait for black. It'll show up sooner or later.

Michael:

I bought a new '01 RT10 with the connelly interior and enjoy it much more than if it were black. Provides a great color contrast plus, as others have mentioned, it is much softer to the touch. Get the connelly!

I like the stuff! I CAN see how you'd get tired of it quick though. I almost wish that just the seats were that color though. I think the wheel, brake lever and shift knob are a bit much. I do think it's a little classier looking than the black, and the leather is a bit nicer.

Michael,

When you see the car in person you will be amazed, pictures hardly due the car justice. When you see the shine off that black hood and look at that Connelly leather interior you will be immediately sold! In fact I liked it so much that I bought the matching Snake Oil Connelly leather colored floor mats. As far as driving comfort, all I can say is I've gone 450 miles in one day and could have gone another 450 easy.

Hey Michael,

Here is shot that I took of a sapphire colored GTS at VOI7 with connelly interior. Absolutely gorgeous!!! Hope this gives you a better look at the overall car with the interior.

Well there are certainly two different camps on this one...

Thanks to all who responded and posted the pics. It is obvious that this color does appeal to many.

I will be checking out the connelly because it is so close to my house. I am anxious to touch it and see the difference versus the black. Nobody has yet mentioned the heat factor? I thought black seats in the sun would be hotter than he$$...no? I have black now and I have burnt myself.

The only color I think it does look good in is Sapphire...

But since BLACK RULES...Get a Black/Black RT!

I agree with Gerald here as well. I think the exterior color can enhance the interior or vice versa. This is the best shot I have right now with Sapphire.

I am just catching up on my Viper Forum
(a week in Mexico  - ah) anyway here is a pic to show the truer 'pumpkin' glow that took my breathe away when I first saw it !

No question about it, go with the Connelly. The stock black leather is really cheap stuff, Connelly will last forever (well almost forever). And if you ask me the Connelly look great. A few years down the road collectors will be talking about the Connelly leather package - go for it!

While the color isn't too different from that of a basketball, the Connolly cognac leather color looks FANTASTIC in a black Viper. '99 is a fine year, too, IMHO.

The Connolly looks far more rich than the standard black.

As much as I'm a fan of that Connolly, I've had two red Vipers and black's the only interior color that works inside them for my taste.
