Well, the Racelogic Traction Control is installed and operating as advertised. I have no data on how traction control will affect one’s E.T. as the car has never been on the track; however, the “seat-of-the-pants-ometer” indicates that it helps. Having it installed certainly aids in the confidence department, as avoiding being “snake bit” has been on my mind quite a bit given the number of Vipers that have been wrecked when they incurred loss of traction at unexpected moments.

The installation was not difficult, just a little time-consuming (maybe 16 hours total), but my main concern was a waterproof, trouble-free installation rather than rushing to get the unit installed. A word of caution, should you wish to install traction control, buy or borrow the factory service manual for your year’s car, as the wiring color-coding changed from ViperGMC’s original instructions.

Btw – my thanks again to ViperGMC for his ground-breaking installation and excellent postings on this forum and to Jeremy at Matrix Integrated for his information on the Racelogic traction control system. Should anyone wish to discuss the installation details more thoroughly, just PM me your telephone number.

Thanks,

Lynn

Where in NJ are you. We installed a Racelogic unit in a SRT-10 and he lives in southern NY. PM me if you are interested. I may be able to arrange a test ride.

By waterproof, I meant that I wished to avoid water entry into the unit or the wiring that might cause shorts and subsequent engine malfunctions such as ViperGMC incurred when he first installed his TC unit and placed it at the left front of the engine compartment. My TC unit was put within a plastic box, vented to the back and side and located at the extreme back of the engine compartment on the driver's side of the car, (just on top of where the emmission labeling is located). Thanks - Lynn

the only traction control device a viper needs is your right foot. We are driving the closest thing to a race car on the street and real race cars do not have traction control. Even F1 is getting rid of it.

Traction control is inevitable , especially as the power of performance cars continue to rise past the ability of street tires to put the power down, especially in poor weather conditions.

Name the other 400HP+ cars in production (sold in America)that don't have traction control. How many 500HP+ cars that don't have TC?

Outside of the safety issues of protecting newbie drivers, and having a safe car driving in rain and on snow, or on gravel oil, etc. Simple, consistant acceleration is also a factor.

While it's true that a skilled driver on a grippy track can get a stock SRT-10 Viper 0-60 in under 4 seconds, and through the 1/4 mile in under 12 seconds, most drivers can't duplicate that kind of performance. And that's with 500HP. Once the Viper's power approaches 550-650HP, it will even be tougher for non-experts to get better performance out of the car due to spinning the tires.

As long as you have a button to disable the traction control feature for perfect traction conditions and skilled drivers, TC would likely only be an advantage for the Viper, just as ABS is today.

I too had issues with the TC set-up. I recently sent my unit back to Jeremy and he is sending it back to RL. We shall see... it was the gremelins I was experiencing, though, for quite a while.

Did you see the F1 race a while back where a McLaren lost the traction/skid control? The car was all over the place, almost uncontrollable. All the smooth moves you see in F1 are due to a little computer box keeping them 'on-track'. The best programmers win races.

IMO the way it should be is:
-Safe tracks (large run off areas with sand/gravel/safe barriers) and NO electronics allowed when racing. It should be about human skill, not the matrix.
-Traction/Stability control on all street cars would be mandatory with an On/Off KEY switch.

Hey John,

I've been in contact with Jason quite a few times, but none since late last week. I just emailed him again to see the progress.

As I mentioned to him, we need a log file from the RLTC unit. Without that we can't be of much help.

TTYS,
Jeremy
