Trouble with lighter holder

Has anyone had trouble with the lighter holder in the console getting stuck. I purchased my car long distance and it was stuck in the up position. I called the dealer and they said it should move smoothly and I shold take it to a local Dodge dealer. Iwas trying to avoid that if possible because they always give you a hard time since you didn't buy the car from them. Any help is appreciated.

doesnt take much to pull the plate and get the forien object out?

Simple - Remove the bolts to the shifter surround and pull up on the corners of the lower console cover. It is held in by push pins.
