I have an opportunity to pick up a 2001 race yellow GTS, no stripes, which has been on my list for a while.

However, it has a rebuilt title from 2011 when it sideswiped a guardrail.

Inspection and test drive are clean, no glaring issues, and no codes currently. Miles are at 13,692. I can't spot anything out of sorts, no alignment issues, no gaps, interior is clean.

What is this really worth? I guess I'm asking the "if I buy it and have to sell it, what's reality?" question. What's a price you folks would see it advertised for and not balk at?

Being low mileage helps a lot with a rebuild title IMO…I’d guess 20% hit on value compared to a comparable 2001 GTS under 15k miles.

Well, if the car was totaled, must have been some serious/expensive damages
The market is much smaller for selling a write off Viper. If you can afford a no issue viper, stay away from that one
If a low mileage no issues is $75k, a 20% discount is only $15k…… certainly not enough to make someone choose a totaled car over a non issue car
Maybe around $45k i would be tempted

My number would be 41-43. Do you consider that a safe bet? Honestly, with everything, I hate the idea of getting into something I couldn't dump, but the car is immaculate. The branded title will ALWAYS hurt on resale, but it's how much much it hurts that matters.

Is the current owner the one that rebuilt/fixed the car?
Any invoices on the work done ?

Usually cars are totaled because of frame damage, but with the Gen 1 and 2 vipers (especially the GTS) parts are very scarce and expensive, so totaling from and accident doesn’t have to involve frame damage. I agree the car will always be worth less, but 40% for a low mileage GTS seems excessive…considering the low production volume.

I don't have any of that history. I do have a current inspection, photos, and test drive to go off of. No invoices and probably can't get any.

No frame damage reported; it was damage to the passenger side from what what was reported as a guard rail contact. Car was reportedly towed.

if it was a clean title, no accident...everything perfect as it should be. 70-80k range

Since its rebuilt title figure 70% of that if it's perfect.

If you can get it in the mid 40s, it is probably worth your time and effort. Otherwise, I would pass and wait for a clean title car.

My 2001 GTS has a rebuilt title after hitting a curb that damaged the driver's side exhaust cover/shield and rear rim?
Florida titles are very strict on when you have to list it as a rebuilt title. I bought the car for my use not worrying about resale value.... no regrets!

I don’t buy it… in Florida a car is given a salvage title ( and once you rebuilt it and pass inspection, you get the rebuilt title) when a insurance company declares it a total loss or damages cost exceeding 75 to 80% of the total vehicle value
A side sill and a wheel total less than $5k for sure
I call it bs
That’s also part of the issue when buying a car with a rebuild title.. the load of crap and bs/lies that come with it

This car had to be completely inspected and recertified here upon registering it in Canada, and no other issues were found, I replaced the side sill because of the initial poor repair.
No regrets

I have a gen V right now that only needed a front bumper cover. It does happen. Parts availability or sometimes it's just easier for the insurance company to total than deal with the owner.

Let me try to understand, you are saying that for a the cost of a front bumper, maybe $2k, the insurance declared it a total loss and preferred to pay the insured $50 to $70k instead of fixing it for a couple of thousands ?????
Which universe are you living in ?
And where/how much you paid for that rebuild titled Gen 5 ???

Why is it.... that whenever I hear of rebuilt titled cars, the damage is always described as "slight" or "superficial", or "light".
Where are the ones that were "an absolutely sh*t show" or "we had to add a completely new front half".
I call BS on most of them. Over 75% of the value of the car is a "LOT" of damage.
Yes, I've also heard the unicorn stories about it being about parts availability however they are few and far between.
For context, I've repaired and re-titled a salvage car the past.

It’s what I mentioned earlier, rebuild titled cars almost always come with a load of bs, lies and unbelievable stories…

Here is my thoughts and take with a grain of salt. If it is a dream car and you don’t plan on selling it and pass it on to your family get it. If it is a resale car then I would never buy a R title car.
