Valve cover paint

Just put my 94 viper away for the winter and noticed the left side valve cover paint is beginning to bubble. This is going to look quite ugly once the blisters flake off. Does anyone know the correct paint to use to spray these? I'll probably pull them off in the spring and sandblast the two, then shoot them. Please advise if there is a better way or if sandblasting is a mistake.

Thanks for the help,

Jeff

Be carefull with the sandblast. Chuck Tator tells a story of a guy who sandblasted his Valve Covers. The inside of the covers have some sort of lining. Turns out the covers collected sand in between the lining and the covers. Installed the covers. Oil loosened up the sand and totally destroyed the engine.

The VC's are powder coated and MUST be chemically stripped because they are magnesium. You can sand and paint them as several others have done. To get them re-powder coated costs about $200 per VC.

I searched and searched about powder coating the VC's and there were shops that knew about handeling magnesium and there were those that did not(the sand blaster crowd). Most places will tell you they will not do the job due to the metal.

Sanding and repainting is the way to go, do it yourself.

Thanks alot guys! You stopped me from possibly making a big mistake with the sandblast. I will probably sand and do it myself as suggested. Any idea where I might get the matching paint that is heat resistant? Will it have the crinkle effect? Thanks for any info.

Looks GREAT by the way. I have a concern with the color matching the intake. It looks as if you did all of it.

Thanks,

I have a red GTS and never liked the way the stock maroon/red motor looked next to the paint. I had the intake and valve covers done at the same time - along with many other parts.

Intake and valve covers cost around $400.00.

WOW!!

That really looks great! I agree about having the colr match the exterior. Where do I send it to have it done?

Removing the valve colvers does not bother me, but removing the intake makes me a bit nervous.
