Ran the car hard yesterday and when I opened the hood to check stuff out I noticed that the VEC2 box was hotter than I ever remember it being.

It was hot enough that you could touch it but no way you could keep your hand on it for more than a second.

Its mounted in the conventional place, horizontal on top of the box above the PCM.

I haven't been measuring the temp any scientific way and maybe this is normal, but for a box with PCBs and elec components, it seems way too hot to me.

Anybody have any experience with this?

i have noticed mine hot at times but never really gave it a second thought. i'll take more notice though from now on.

i dont think its a problem if you were running hard. everything in the engine bay is gonna be hot too.

is the box its mounted on the heater core? If so they could be some of your problem. I have mine mounted there also, but put a pc if insulation under it.

Hey Bobby boy.

Calling Sean is the answer. Even though an aluminum finned heat sink
might save future issues.

Peace, i'll call ya when in town.
Can U afford one of my

Yo Scotty, good to hear from ya - and glad to see you're still cruising the VCA boards!

I did call Sean yesterday and the tech (a good guy who I've spoken to before) said they'd never measured the temp before but he doubted it'd be a problem since that's where most people mount 'em.

I never actually put my hand on it after an extended run but when I did I was surprised to find out it was too hot to touch - pretty frikkin' hot for PCBs and other elec components I figured.

Maybe you other VEC2 guys'll check the temp of yours after a run and report back whether its north or south of the temp that makes you have to pull your hand off it after one second.....then we'll all know!

Did you score the Lambo yet?

Peace.

Thanks Plumcrazy. I know its not a scientific measure or anything but do you think you coulda kept your hand pressed on it for 10 seconds? If you could, then mine's soaking up too much heat from the box or the headers (unshielded :bonker: of course....)
