It’s that time of year....
I thought you folks would enjoy a simple one to start off what promises to be a pretty good modification season. This is a very short guide to introduce a very nice new product from Justin at JMB Performance. You may remember Justin from his really outstanding fabrication work, some of which graces PBJ (Performance By Joe) Vipers. If it’s made out of aluminum and/or needs to be powder coated…well Justin is one of the best. Just a side by...forgot my camera so all these shots were from my cell phone.

Now you won't see this unit on his website for a while as this is one of the very first units.
Simple to install, this unit provides some additional protection for your VEC. In this case, we are covering a VEC3. It is not waterproofing per say, rather it covers the unit, shedding water that comes in from three of the sides. Solid taping of the rear (standard operating procedure) along with painter taping the front really keeps the water out. One still has full card access, full cable access and the ability to remove the cover if it is mounted with Velcro tape. Now remember, the VEC should be mounted on industrial Velcro to begin with, so the VEC is already out of any standing water. This unit really tucks it all away and makes for great presentation too. I liked the final set-up so up, I used standard double stick industrial to set it down. Nice clean results.
The Before...
The After….
Here is a shot of the rear face of the unit…
And the bottom….
So what is involved? Not much! Simply wrap the rear cabling with a good layer of electrical tape (super flex is best) and be sure to mount the VEC unit solidly before mounting the box.
Next find the foot print area of the box and wipe it down with a good cleaner (isopropyl alcohol / Simple Green). Center the feet and press down. You can cover the front of the box with blue painters tape to keep out anything else and you’re done. Simple? You bet….nice place to start us off. Oh yea...it's me, even without that crushed thumb nail!
