We are toying very seriously with doing a private track rental of one of the local drag strips around Kansas City early this fall for Vipers and a few other invited guests. We are considering Kansas City International Raceway (KCIR) (the men will like this link) and Heartland Park Topeka. We would have the track for a full day (eight hours, probably on a Saturday) of unlimited drag racing. We might even be able to add a second day if warranted.

Heartland Park is one of the faster tracks in the US, with several NHRA records. It is also a very nice facility with wide lanes. Topeka is about 60 miles west of Kansas City right off I-70. KCIR is an older track with nothing fancy about it. It was completely repaved in March and is a very good track (I have run there several times). It is a little bit more narrow than Heartland Park, but is every bit as good as far as staging, timing lights, etc.

The idea is to provide a venue for beginners and advanced drivers together. Many of the folks here in Kansas City have never formally drag raced (legally) and prefer not to start with 100 teenagers and their various cars all over the place (every Wednesday & Friday at KCIR). We would also try to set up a prize fund for different brackets, including Fastest Rookie. My question to all is whether you would be interested in joining the Kansas City Vipers for a fun-filled day of drag racing? Figure the cost to be around $75 (or less) per car, depending on the number of participants. We are tentatively targeting the weekend of October 11th & 12th. Kansas City is located at the "bullseye of America" at the intersection of I-70 and I-35.

Please let me know if you would be interested in attending or drop me a note at [email protected]. Thanks!

Chris,
The St. Louis region is having our 2nd of such events at Gateway on the 10th from 10am - 3pm. All 25 spots were sold out in just a couple hours. We do not have an organized race with classes and such, rather, just a run what ya brung and go for bragging rights.

I'm interested.
