Hi guys,

I'm in the process of putting 1st gen Dodge Viper engine in my 3rd gen Firebird GTA and I have Camaro LT1 T56 tranny, but I need Viper T56 input shaft.

Does anybody have one for sale or can tell me where I can found one?

Thank You very much in advance.

Best regards,

I installed a Viper T56 behind a Ford Engine in my 66 Mustang. It'd be easier to use a Viper T56 behind the Viper engine if you don't already have a GM T56. Using the GM T56 you could also go with a pilot bearing/bushing adapter to match the back of the crank to the GM input shaft. Make sure you match the splines of the GM input shaft to the clutch disk you use.

Input spline is the same, 26 splines, but output is not, 30 splines Viper's T56, 27 splines Camaro T56.

Here you can see differences between shafts:

I have no idea what to do with any kind of adapter, because input shaft I have is shorter than I need :(

I tried to connect T56 with Viper engine, but input shaft doesn't go enough to enter into clutch disc, shaft is at least 2" shorter than I need.

Belgrade, cool, I'm in Dubrovnik right now, not too far from you. I lucked out with my Ford, the input shaft was same length.
If you use the Viper input shaft you'll need the intermediate bell housing too. Well, on the link you posted they sell what you want for $300. You could try other car forums, will PM to you.

Does anybody know what's the difference between Camaro/Firebird T56 and Viper T56 adapter plate? That's plate marked red on picture below.

I want to know if I buy Viper input shaft, do I need also Viper adapter plate or I can use Camaro/Firebird plate, eventually with some modifications?

The mid plate is probably different between the Viper and Camaro T56 but probably minimal, difference is probably the mounting holes for the hydraulic throw out bearing are clocked at different angle. The Camaro one is hydraulic too but shorter than the Viper one. The holes in the midplate are just to keep the base of the TO bearing is to keep it centered and not come in contact with the inputs haft. You could make an adapter spacer ring and use the cheaper Camaro TO bearing, but you will need to measure how much of a gap to fill between the Camaro TO bearing to the Viper pressure plate, then maybe leave 1/16-1/8 gap. This would simplify things when connecting your TO bearing to your clutch master cylinder. Or, get the Viper TO bearing and drill the mounting holes to mount up to the Camaro midplate.

I'm still in the process of thinking

Can I use Camaro's T56 Clutch slave cylinder or not?

So, if I buy Vipers input shaft and front plate, is it all I need to attach this T56 on Viper engine, or I need something else?

Just to mention that I have complete clutch from Viper V10 engine.
