Also check the U joints as the most common source of 'thumps'

Yea you're gonna have to explain the sound a little better and give a little better description of where you think it game from (front, back, middle). There's lots of places it could be. Did it happen once or repeatedly???

My Vipers have been clumping and thumping for 150,000 miles. Since you said it was a "little thump" I wouldn't worry about it.

Pull the halfshafts and check the U-joints. Otherwise see if it vibrates a little once you get up around 150mph (U joint should cause small vibration).

Explaining Viper things to you
Mounts. Engine or tranny. Do not rely on a static visual inspection. It will fool you. Put a jack under the oil pan with a wood block and lift a bit. Look for separation. Do the same on the tranny mount.

With mounts there shouldn't be any movement at light throttle or proper shifting. Any easy way to check mounts is to open the hood, watch the engine for movement, pull the parking brake on and let out the clutch slowly. Try that again with Reverse to check the pass side mount. It is possible that a worn Ujoint could also make noise during this test - but not reliably.
