Viperholics,

I was kicking around the idea of doing a heads, roller hydraulic camshaft, and 1.7RR upgrade. If I go this route, I plan on having a professional do the install. How many hours should this take - ballpark? Also, will I need to upgrade my lifters as well, or anything else (fuel pump, injectors, etc..)? I already have a full exhaust. I'm told 550 RWHP from a properly tuned package is reasonable. Also, any additional maintenance issues with this combination?

Thanks in advance.

Installing cylinder heads, installing and degreeing camshaft along with replacing lifters and inspecting all parts and oil pump would be roughly $1,500.00

Fella's,

I am looking for a TIME/HRS, not cost. Viper techs. vary widely in hourly rates depending on location, etc...

Thanks again...

half a day meaning 12 hours, right?

No, not at all. I'm just guessing here, but I would think it could easily be done in 6 hours. There's nothing terribly difficult about it. I pulled the heads on my 01 in less than two, so I don't think 6 would be a stretch at all. I could be wrong.

yes, you will need to replace the rockers. Also, what are you planning on doing with the valves and springs?

Oh, and I do not think six hours is enough time to alot do to the job. I certainly would not want my guys skipping any steps or being sloppy with the R&R.

Best of luck.

so is it necessary to replace the stock lifters when changing the heads and cam? I assume it is best to go with new lifters on a new cam, but was not for sure.

Changing out the heads isn't very hard (headers are generally the biggest hassle to get around). RR aren't difficult (Adjusting them is the pain). But the cam is the really time intensive portion. Figure Roughly (I said roughly) 15-17 hours for the total job. There is a ton of little crap you need to do to take the cam out with the motor in the car.
It is always recommended that you replace the lifters when doing this job.

Dude...6 hours? This job is roughly a 15-20 hour job depending on how fast the guy doing the work moves. Personally speed isn't always a good thing either. I'd want a good job. I did this job and it took me a week of 3-4 hour nights with a lift. You want it done right.

6 hours would be a speed record for the job discussed. If that is the amount of time assumed, you may want to get Petty's pit crew over your house with a half dozen of their ace mechanics!

I think the SRT valve replacement was stated as a 6 hour job. Right. More like 9+ hours for an experienced mechanic. That is without the cam change. That makes it a completely different job.

Mechanics make money by doing jobs in less time than the book says it will take. It's called flagging. 9 hours doesn't sound too far off, hell I was just guessing. 15-20 hours? *** were you doing? Did you stop to catch a 30 minute nap after each hour of work? You get the award for the world's slowest mechanic. I think it probably took me 10 to 12 hours to pull my heads, pull the engine, and put it back in. If I had done it before it would have gone a lot quicker.
